Dick Clark used to say that music is the soundtrack to our lives. What songs are on your soundtrack and why?

This one reminds me of a girl I knew in high school that I used to walk home with, sharing cigarettes and music. She was very pretty, a little bit troubled, a little bit weird (in an alternative hippie kind of way), but friendly and down to earth, and generally just a really cool person. Nothing happened with us - not even close. But, I still have fond memories.

Music has been a guiding light for me since I heard Pink Floyds Time. Thanks to the lyrics in that song I was determined not to miss the starting gun and find that ten years had gotten behind me. Revolution by the Beatles also really spoke to me. Desperado as well as to busy being fabulous to name just a few eagles songs that have great lyrics. I'm surprised only two of us have chimed in on this subject.

One of the first albums I ever bought when I was around 10 years old. Gilmour's solo in that song is one of the few absolutely perfect moments in all of rock music.

As for the thread, give it, um.... you know...

HE'S SO FINE by THE CHIFFONS is the song that automatically starts to play in my head when I see Vladyslav. We've slow danced to this song a few times at night on 7-11 parking lots and the famous lovers lane in Hollywood.

It's kinda like those 50's styled films where you see the person you like and out of nowhere a love song starts to play. Exactly like that.

For some reason, the sound of the song "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones gives me a wistful feeling.

I kissed my girlfriend (now wife) for the first time after playing "All I Ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera for her so that one for starters.

"Heart of Glass", oddly, reminds of church youth group and the minister's hot daughter (we remained "just friends", alas, but she was one of my more intense crushes). It was playing at a party across the street from the church one evening as we were heading home.

I got a gentle reminder of this over the weekend when I saw The Lion King on stage that this song played at my wedding... 9 1/2 years ago.

I was shy with girls in high school. My best friend and his girl friend invited me to ride around town (surely everyone rode the circuit on Friday night) with them and her best friend whose name was Gloria! It was pretty dull and awkward for the first hour, then this song came on the radio and the switch was flipped so to speak. I started teasing her and we just laughed and had a great time from then on. We rode around til past midnight on miles and miles of country roads and it was one of the most enjoyable nights I had during high school. Funny how the simplest things are the most memorable sometimes. It still comes to mind now and then just like it did tonight.

Same goes for Jolene, regardless of who sings it.

I had an uncle who used to be a bully. He was a big guy with a big voice who liked to push people around, and pick on anyone weaker than him (especially kids, but also my aunt and grandparents). He was one of the few people I've actually felt hatred towards. Anyway, he got sick later in life. I remember seeing him after I'd grown up, and he was stuck in a hospital bed just lying there all pathetic and weak. I never really forgave him, but I wasn't scared of him anymore. Whatever power he'd had over me when I was a kid, it was gone. He was just a feeble old man dying. It wasn't really satisfying to see him like that. In fact, there was something a bit sad about it.

When You Say Nothing At All - Allison Krauss The first song my wife and I ever danced to.

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain what I hear when you don't say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me
A touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
Now you say it best when you say nothing at all.

It’s a song by Tony Keith, who passed in the last week…Don’t Let the Oldman In. It has profound meaning now.

puts the ‘ass’ in ‘class’.

Mine is ‘I Run For Life’ by Melissa Etheridge. I first heard it when I was training for the London Marathon years ago. I was raising money for Cancer Research in support of a child I taught, and when I heard the lyrics, I burst out crying, mid-run. Hearing it still makes me emotional now. X

Share in the total literary glory.’

Linkin Park: One More Light

My sister went through some horrible, dark stuff in 2017 right around when this song came out and this song will always make me cry.

Every now and then I listen to it, just to remind myself of how proud of her I am that she came through it all. Not only that, but also how selfishly grateful I am that she did.

My best friend, forever. 🤎

So this is me under my old profile.

"I kissed my girlfriend (now wife) for the first time after playing "All I Ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera for her so that one for starters.

"Heart of Glass", oddly, reminds of church youth group and the minister's hot daughter (we remained "just friends", alas, but she was one of my more intense crushes). It was playing at a party across the street from the church one evening as we were heading home."

More recently, the song "How's the Heart?" by Nightwish stirs up feels because I came to associate with the ending of a trilogy of stories I wrote over on StoriesSpace featuring one of my favourite of my own characters.

Let's just say the line "Now there's one who came from me, a child of light, another tale" gives a bit of a spoiler for the events of the final story.

Celebrating a couple of my older, less viewed stories:

Have you ever had love Rekindled?

The god came to her In the Waters That Bring Life.

In Spanish, a song called el matador was a classic of my youth. There was one from Colombia called Yo no se manana which struck a chord at that time.

In English, Circle of Life, I can't make you love me and Chasing Cars remind me forcefully of particular times and places in life.
