Markets dropped 53-56% in the 2007-2009 crash. Even a modestly well off investor like me can survive that if they take a hold position as Felix suggests. Selling is actually what hurts you because it converts your paper loss into a real one. I would feel it, but I would be fine in the long haul. Guys like Gates and Musk might just have to put off an acquisition or two for a few years. They'd still be incredibly wealthy. The people who get burned in a crash are people with modest means who threw their limited savings into a bull market without really understanding the implications of that bull market ending. People who understand markets or have advisors who do, which is most of not all of the Fortune listed billionaires and lot of people in the tier below that, will have strategies to deal with a crash.

So, the rich will lose their shirts and the poor are relatively safe as those federal insurances cap out after about 200k per account. So the stock market crashing will most dramatically impact the richest people who’s entire fortune is kept in the tax have that is the stock market. And since it’s overvalued anyway we’ll succeed in wealth distribution pretty much immediately.

I never understand folks who bash the stock market; if you have even a basic understanding of math its pretty easy to avoid losing your shirt. And if there was no stock market where would companies get the funds to grow and expand and therefore provide millions of jobs?

Trump's campaigns are well known to never ask an artist if they could use a song an artist owns - so they can play it at their Trump rallies. They just go ahead and do that - until an artist complains (and even then, that doesn't stop them from stealing the work of someone who is extremely opposed to their campaign stances).
