I write sex scenes because, well, at the end of the day Lush is a erotica site and most of the casual readership expects wank fodder. The problem is that 'explicitness' is subjective: the same sex scene may be one reader's 'Emmanuel' softcore, and another reader's kink.com hardcore. But personally, I don't like to write sex scenes for the sake of having sex scenes. Instead, I prefer to write sex scenes that arise from scenarios set up in the story, so that they seem natural and organic - pay-offs to a set up, rather than the be-all and end-all.

Well done to everyone who entered, particularly Burquette (who I instantly tipped for top three the minute I read 'Gutenberg'), and my man PhilU for getting a top ten place. Only needed VirgoGo to round out a dirty 13, and I'd be happy! Illness prevented me from working my way through all the entries, though I plan on rectifying that ASAP. Some seriously good entries this time around, and I don't envy the judges!

Evening all, how's everyone doing? Woke up to the rather sad news that Mr Hugh Hefner has passed away. Whatever your take on the Playboy founder, he played a major part in mainstreaming sex, he did countless good deeds for charities worldwide, and was a voracious champion of civil rights and gay politics well ahead of his time. Mr Hefner, I salute you - may you rest in peace.

Finally managed to get a story completed for the comp - first thing I've written in almost two months. Blame Emily for bullying me. Hopefully it'll pass the mods, and get there in time to be counted. Once / if it's up, I'll shamelessly promote it here, there and everywhere, so be warned....

Yup - my first attempt at the "Pure Filth" comp. Got about 5800 words into it, and couldn't tie up my ending with the preceding scene. Agonized over it for four days, then gave up and started over. I feel your pain, I really do; but sometimes, you've got to just admit that it isn't working and try a different tack - a different tense, perhaps.
Or just say fuck it, and open the whiskey. That's always good too.
