One thing I really like about the new function is that it lists who recently voted on your stories. Prior to this, I've been pretty clueless about who votes on my stuff unless they leave a comment. It's nice to see who the wider scope of readership audience is.

It's also great to get the complete set of updates - it's a time-saver to be able to see it all in one condensed summary list that pertains only to you.

Thanks, Gav! smile

I would like to express my appreciation to all who reprimanded me for not caring for this feature. It is good to know that expressing one's honest opinion will be jumped on and attacked. It is a good lesson to learn. Thank you. I won't bother to express my opinion again. It is certainly not greeted with the honesty of agreeing to disagree. No I do not receive email notifications of everything you list Pixie, but I do get them on my profile page, which I go to anyway every time I log on. But again, sorry to rain on everyone's parade by having a differing opinion. It definitely won't happen again.

If I may be so bold as to answer... Here I go.

I do not want anybody to feel I am bashing them, so don't take this personally, please.

I think people may have been more upset about the statement saying that the programming was a waste of time, regardless of the stater being clear it was only their opinion. Certain other words also had clearly negative implications.

Gav does work extremely hard on trying to keep the site not only running, but rolling out what people nag him for.

In my opinion, this feature is not my favourite (Invisible is), but I did know that many people would like it. I would prefer to have the option of the "landing page" being the Lush home page after logging in, even though I usually don't do more than scan it.

However, my next step is my profile, and I glance at the activity feed. I have no idea what time others did what they did. The new feed allows me to see options I could only get through email. But I keep my email for a select few purposes, and don't like using it. This new feature lets me keep track of things I want to know about, and when they happened, without that clogged in-box. I presume our privacy settings for scoring and commenting still work.

I did suggest an option for where we land after logging in, but unlike certain other parties elsewhere on the site regarding different matters, I am prepared to wait and see if it is acceptable, possible, and likely.

With all the problems recently, I think it's great that there are so many positive comments. Gingas know Gav's been getting enough complaints recently about errors beyond his control!

It's okay not to like something. It's okay to express it. What is not okay is peope jumping onto those who express a minority opinion. But we should always take care to think about how others might receive our comments, whether offered first, or in reply. Our true characters often show when we least expect it, whether the first to speak, or last.

As for me, I asked myself how I would feel if this feature was offered before I joined, and I would have happily accepted it with no questions. Now I have been here a year, I see the benefit for others, even if not myself, and I will re-adjust my trained brain cell to get used to it.

We all have preferred methods of things, and it's okay not to like this feature. Thank you, Peter_Pan for expressing your thoughts. Might I suggest you do the same as myself, and re-think the way you are informed of scores/votes? This way, you might not need the emails. If you want the emails, but not the timeline option, maybe, in a little while, we might find the choice of adjusting our landing page.

I love it. What a great new feature.

I also spotted the other day, (it may have been there for ages) the shift invisible log in.

The site just keeps getting better and better! :-D

Glad you like the new feature. I'll be adding more to this over time.

I've added an option on your settings page to choose an alternate landing page for once you login.

It shows when you've been quoted in the forum! Fucking amazing. I didn't even think that would be possible.

I'm gonna have to start logging in and out.

Does this mean I'm going to have to log out for the first time in 7 years?

I like the option to be able to log in to your profile instead of the front of site

Same here (except I use Opera, but it does the same), but it is a nice feature to have.

For me it marks an interesting paradigm shift from writing community towards social network. Great if you have a good-sized network of people who are regularly involving themselves in the site, maybe not so great if you're just someone who talks in the chatrooms and read a few stories.

The showing of forum replies is a very helpful addition, does it extends to all mentions on the forum or just quotes?

A couple of things I've spotted:

1. A very minor point, it's not really "what you've missed" - it keeps stuff up from the last time you checked
2. If you delete something someone posted on your profile, it still turns up in your timeline
Warning: The opinions above are those of an anonymous individual on the internet. They are opinions, unless they're facts. They may be ill-informed, out of touch with reality or just plain stupid. They may contain traces of irony. If reading these opinions causes you to be become outraged or you start displaying the symptoms of outrage, stop reading them immediately. If symptoms persist, consult a psychiatrist.

Why not read some stories instead

People who find the feature redundant can choose to have their landing page as their profile or the stories home page. So I can't see what's not so great about it, if we can all choose our preference.

The site is growing at a fast pace, so I think it's a good idea to meet the growing needs by providing features like this. I love how I can see when I have a new story/poem comment without having to look through the list and remember how many I had last time. And I like seeing if I've been responded to. I don't like chatting or being sociable very much, but I do like this idea.

I'm glad it keeps stuff I missed. This is partly because I'm very forgetful, and partly because I often get called away before I had chance to read. In that case, I would miss what I'd missed if it was missing when I got back.

I don't know how possible it is, but would you prefer a "delete from timeline" option? Or, you could get lots of people to quote you and stuff, and then you wouldn't see that they'd posted on your wall after you'd deleted it, because it would get pushed down. Maybe?

Sorry, I have no idea what you're trying to say there, Shy. So i'd have to delete something twice then? or get people to do stuff? If I've deleted something off my wall posts, it's definitely not "something I've missed"

I don't think it's redundant at all, for me it's a useful expansion of the friends activity timeline http://www.lushstories.com/Shylass/activity

I think it's a great feature, thanks! I'd love to be able to access that page once I've signed in as well. (Or is there a way to do that and I'm missing it?)

Another thing I've spotted...

If you post on someone's profile and change your mind and delete it, that original post still appears on her "what you've missed" even though it's deleted off her wall.

Bug or feature?
