I said no such thing.
I simply smiled one day,
Said hello.
At that moment,
The wind caught in my hair,
Whipped ‘round me
‘till I landed in the right spot.
Its power lifted my hem.
I grinned with a thought;
You grinned in recognition.
Like magic,
You beheld beauty.

I never asked you to want me.
I said no such thing.
There was an emptiness in your eyes,
That I felt the need to fill.
Missing pieces,
That I gathered
And offered with a bow.
You realized necessity,
Needed it before it had a name.
You became saturated
With thoughts of me,
Lonely without me near,
Desperate for my voice,
My whisper on your skin.
So,
You realized that you wanted me.

I never mentioned my strength.
I said no such thing.
Who lil’ole me.
When I noticed weakness behind those knees
I fed you the nakedness of my authenticity.
You felt a tremor.
I couldn’t help but rub my body against yours
So that your maleness stood erect
And you generated a new sense of power.
You discovered the need for me,
In order for you to stand.

You did not hear me say I love you.
I said no such thing.
I held back just enough to have you
Realize more than lust.
But, how could a woman lay herself beside you
Without becoming mesmerized by the pull of your body,
The broadness of your back,
And the firmness of your feel?
I could not help but trace my name
On the curves of your being, and hope.
My heart opened.
You took a peek,
And you surrendered.

Now I’ll sit down right here,
Listen to you tell me
All the reasons why we cannot be.
I’ll watch you fight yourself and lose.
Years from now I will remind you of your words
And, you will reply,

“I said no such thing.”
