Not many! I've been working my ass off this year. Lessee...
Glass
Captain Marvel
Avengers Endgame
Tolkien
Rocketman
Dark Phoenix
Yesterday
Spiderman Far From Home
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie
Tolkien stunk. I was expecting way more from it. Dark Phoenix was pretty disappointing too. I liked the Avengers and Capt. Marvel though. Spiderman was lame. Yesterday was fun, but then I'm a Beatles fan. None I saw will win an Oscar.
Here are the movies that I have seen this year.....some common threads here....I dont care for awards as for the most part, it is just people patting themselves on the back....everyone enjoys movies for different reasons.....I will put an asterisk after the ones I saw more than once or will see more than once
Dumbo
Aladdin
Rocketman
Secret Life of Pets 2 *
Toy Story 4 *
Yesterday
The Lion King *
Downton Abbey *
Judy *
Maleficent - Mistress of Evil
Frozen II *
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Star Wars - The Rise of Skywalker *
I think Captain Marvel is the only 2019 movie I have seen and that was on a trans-Atlantic flight. Terrific movie but I know there are some others that will likely beat or rival it for my affection once I see them.
Togo
The Aeronauts
The Two Popes
The Current War
The Lighthouse
A Christmas Carol
Boobtown
Zombie Land Double Tap
Jojo Rabbit
Marriage Story
Once Upon in Hollywood
The Peanut Butter Falcon
The Gold finch
Farming
Good Boys
The Art of Self Defence
Ophelia
The Irishman
I think I just copied my recently watched list from IMDB
Pretty sure "boobtown" was something I watched on showtime afterhours when I was 12. Boomtown is the movie I watched a couple weeks ago.
These were the only great films of 2019:
Jojo Rabbit
The Joker
Once Upon in Hollywood
Marriage Story was my favorite movie of the year.
Other moveis I loved:
Parasite
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Us
Booksmart
Knives Out
Out of everything I watched I was happiest with Scary Stories, I literally waited since I was 9 for that to exist and finally I got my wish
RocketMan: I went with a group of girlfriends from work and we all said the same things; excellent movie. Taron Egerton? Mother, may I! Brilliant movie. An easy watch with stellar acting.
Tolkien: I enjoyed this one. It was very clearly an award-baity movie and you got the sense they were trying really hard to get award attention and noms, but I enjoyed it. Solid story.
The Irishman: Loved it. It's nice to see Robert DeNiro doing decent movies again, and not just any old rubbish for the money *cough* dirty grandpa *cough*
Jojo Rabbit: I may be biased as a kiwi for Taika Waititi, but this is genuinely an excellent movie. I love Sam Rockwell, he is such a talented actor who clearly gives a shit about his craft and acting and doing the best damn job he possibly can.
Gemini Man: Meh
Charlie's Angels: Meh
