He'd been fighting Pancreatic cancer for a while and still hosting Jeopardy. the show has been a staple in our household for as long as i can remember. everything gets put aside for 30 minutes while my wife and i watch and participate. it's a sad day. he will be sorely missed.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

This is sad news. Alex Trebek was such an outstanding, entertaining TV show host with a huge fan following. Unfortunately pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers. Alex Trebek will be greatly missed.
RIP, Alex. What a great host and great person, too. He was an alumnus of the university my son attends and was very generous in his giving to them. I think they have something on campus named for him but I forget what.

EDIT: Did a quick Google and it's their new alumni hall, a restored historic building that serves as a conference and meeting facility.
Been watching the show as long as I can remember. He was the classiest host of any show on TV. Jeopardy won't be the same without him. Plus who can forget the Saturday Night Live skits involving Jeopardy with Will Ferrell as Trebek. Classic and he said he loved the sketches. RIP Alex.
He had such a great voice too. R.I.P. Trebek.
rest easy, mr. trebek. this one hurts about as much as any celebrity i can remember, up there with tom petty.

when the show's producer did the intro before the first episode to air after alex died, and you could see him choke up several times...good lord it was tough to watch.
Had a good talk with my best friend Sunday, who was a five-time Jeopardy champ. He spoke eloquently about how important Alex Trebek was to him and his family. And about what a consummate professional the man was. RIP
Those who knew him say that Trebek was as much a gentleman off-screen as on.

He was Canadian, and went out of his way to support the community he came from. He headed up the Canadian Geographic Society in southern Ontario, and returned to hand out the awards for that organization in person, not begging off like some big-time star, even though he was.

One eulogy I read online described him as being the champion of truth in a time of lies.

I would die happy if people were to remember me as fondly, and with as much respect, as they do him.

So the final question is: Who is Alex Trebek?

An incredibly talented, but modest Polar Bear, often mischievous, but never malicious!

I'm an avid Jeopardy fan. I did the online test numerous times and made it only once. I chose not to go because I didn't think I was ready.

I was actually surprised that he made it this long after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Most people with stage 4 p cancer don't last this long.

I hope they put up a statue of him in Sudbury, Ontario.
I just watched the first two Jeopardy! episodes sans Alex Trebek. Ken Jennings is guest hosting.

It's just not the same.

Apparently Katie Couric is also slated to be a Guest host. I think they should get will Ferrell.

I love watching old Trebek clips when he was younger. He was pretty witty.

I do find it kind of sad that Trump used the same song as he flew away on Marine 1. The epitome of class vs the epitome of lack of class.
