I just watched one of the most intensely captivating episodes of any television program I’ve ever seen - Black Mirror’s, Season 4; Episode 1: The USS Callister.

Other than recently watching the movie, I had never watched this show. Each episode is a stand-alone thrill with a different cast for each. It’s like the Twilight Zone meets The X-Files. I accidentally watched this episode, thinking it was Season 1; Episode 1. I hope I didn’t watch the best one first.

There are only 19 episodes in total over four seasons.

Are there any Black Mirror fans on Lush?

If so, please share your thoughts, comments, etc. about the show.
Season 1; Episode 1: The National Anthem

Just Frickin' Brilliant!!! The ultimate (not quite Sophie's Choice) dilemma - what would you do to save a princess?

My goodness, this episode is so well written, so well acted (except for one silly part about the guarantee of future safety - just stupid). It was intense, funny, but the moral dilemma is brilliantly played out in the over-connected world that we live in. I kept thinking, Deliverance, but not really. Kinda. But not. If you are squeamish, or rather, squealish , this might be too much for you.

Next: Season 1: Episode 2: Fifteen Million Merits.
Absolutely. I wrote about it on here. Just brilliant Lush TV thread
I started the series about a month ago and finished it a few weeks ago. It’s clever, creative, and kept my attention and interest from episode to episode.

Unfortunately, I really didn’t care for the way in which nearly every episode had some sort of meloncholic twist. The ‘happiest’ ones even aren’t all that happy although a few come close. I found that some have satisfying endings but others don’t. Comparisons to The Twilight Zone are what first drew me in and while the original series didn’t have a perfect track record (some episodes are garbage e.g. I Sing the Body Electric - an episode which gets included in every compilation because it was penned by Ray Bradbury despite being a boring mess of a story) it holds up over half a century later. I don’t think the majority of Black Mirror will be able to stand up to the same test of time.

A few episodes are particularly brilliant (The Waldo Moment, Hated in the Nation, USS Callister) but there are more that I didn’t care for and had no characters of redeeming quality (White Bear, White Christmas, Shut Up and Dance, Crocodile) which has sullied my perception of the show as a whole. Still, I can promise that I’ll be among the first to watch season 5.

I can’t think of a good tagline so this will have to do. Suggest a better one for me?

Darn it. I did not want to duplicate a thread. I searched, but found nothing except for the thread and poll Nicola started about the movie.

Nuts. I may toast this and add onto yours...

I'll keep this in mind. I hope to finish watching before season 5 begins/gets released. It's good to go in with lowered expectations. That will help me with this. Thanks!

Having lower expectations will definitely help. I kept hearing about how “San Junipero” was supposed to be the best episode. I watched it and enjoyed the story. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but I found it to be far closer on the scale to ‘decent’ than ‘great’ which left me feeling disappointed.

Out of what I have watched this was by far my favourite episode

There are so many 'top episode's lists' on line, but I've found Wired.com best matches my preferences, so far.

My Top 5 so far (in no particular order):

1. San Junipero (emotional, great story)
2. USS Callister (amazing concept, fun)
3. The National Anthem (ultimate Catch-22, except for that Sophie's Choice thingie, but it's lots of Deliverance-type fun)
4. Hates In The Nation (just watched this - loved it; LOVE Kelly MacDonald )
5. Nosedive (started off annoying, but it made sense - reminded me of Falling Down with Michael Douglas)

Didn't like as much:

1. Be Right Back
2. Crocodile
3. The Entire History of You (too in my face with stuff)
4. Arkangel (great concept, like chipping pets, but... )
5. Fifteen Million Merits (Meh)
6. White Christmas (Jon Hamm was great in it, as he was in Baby Driver)

Next Up: Black Museum. I'm going to jump the rest and come back to them. It will be really tough to crack the my top 5. No innuendo intended.
Yeah it's pretty good.

A more modern version of The Twilight Zone, with all the fiction surrounding social media and technology.
