Nancy Wilson - Guitar
Ann Wilson - Vocals

I am also partial to Norah Jones, Allison Kraus, LeeAnn Rimes, Idina Menzel, Shawn Colvin, Diana Krall

69Kisses, you are in the area....you should check out Sisters Morales, if you have never heard them
Kina Grannis (indie singer/songwriter who plays guitar fairly well)
Serena Ryder (Canuck pop singer, though her older stuff leaned more into folk and blues)
Joni Mitchell (not a killer guitar player, but competent, and easily one of the best singer-songwriters of her generation)
Mary Timony. She's not for everyone's taste, but I consider her to be one of the most inventive guitarists of the 90s.

Don't believe everything that you read.

I am rather partial to Melanie Safka.

me'shell ndegeocello. this is my favorite song of hers! she only sings the chorus in this song - but it's so rich and soulful. and that bass? oh baby baby...

Say. Her. Name.

1988. Live at Wembley, Tracy Chapman is pulled on stage at the last minute to fill in for the iconic Stevie Wonder. She has signed a record deal just the year before and is largely unknown. She may not be the most technically proficient guitarist in the world but I always loved how her words and guitar come together. She must have been nervous as hell but she just fucking nails it!

Amy Lee of Evanescence
Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil

Becky, I checked them out on YouTube. They are a bit out of my normal tastes, but they are definitely talented. Did you ever get a chance to see the Texas Tornadoes? You may like them.

I never saw them but have heard their music. I prefer Sisters Morales.

There are too many singers to list, but I do love Gretchen Menn, just for guitarist since she does not sing.

She's very good, Gillian. Her style reminds me of a cross between Eric Johnson and Ian Moore, who were the two hot Austin guitarists after Stevie Ray Vaughan left the scene.

Here is another female Austin singer/guitarist you may like. Ruthie Foster.

I saw Kitty Wells live and IMO she couldn't shine Ruthie Foster's shoes.
Jennifer Batten wins the award for 'most changed'. She was at the Musicians Institute when I went. I didn't know her well, but several times, we were in the same study/jam group. If she ever were to chance upon this post, I definitely mean no harm or insult whatsoever, but at school, she was a mousy girl in corduroy pants and wire-trimmed glasses, learning to play jazz standards, and was unfamiliar with rock guitar cliches (I remember one of the students showing her one of the most basic rock licks). She struck me as being a bit on the timid side.

A few years after graduation, she had big spiky hair, playing for Michael Jackson. More than a few of my old school mates said 'WTF?'. It's amazing how she transformed herself, and is truly an excellent musician. Fierce girl, that one.
So many too mention, from Joni to Aretha, but I am going to say that this is one of the best albums ever made and just leave it at that.

My body begged for release and for more; for a perfect moment, a sublime stalemate held
