So good right?

I thought it was tied up nicely with a thoughtful crisp ending. I don't need a second season. I just hope they don't make a watered down American version of it like the did with the office.

The British way of a six episode season is perfect.

Did you see Gervais's comments when a journalist asked him how he felt that the American version of "The Office" was more successful than the British version? He replied, "Even richer".

For the record, the original was far better. So awkward it was hard to watch.

I think both "Derek" and "After Life" were so uniquely British black humour, there's no danger of those ever having watered down versions made for overseas. Particulary for the US who tend to like less subtle humour.

My favorite is actually "Life's Too Short."

Ricky Gervais just came out with a new series on Netflix. The writing is so good. Extremely funny with a very dark edge. Very British humor which I love.

I really loved this.

I did too. I binged it when it came out. Love Ricky Gervais. The show is short and sweet. Lots of moments.

Just started watching, The Twilight Zone. If you haven't heard, Jordan Peele, the talented dude behind Get Out and Us, is working on this revival series.

I've not finished the first episode yet, but so far, pretty damn good. In the first episode, Jordan Peele plays the Rod Sterling part. I hope it continues...
What we do in the shadows....

In 2014, Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement came out with a mockumentary movie that was absolute gold.

If you enjoyed the Flight of the Conchords and Thor Ragnorok.... Great understated New Zealand Humor.

As for most great foreign shows, they have adapted it for US tv.

And so far it's pretty good. Instead of Aukland, the vampires are in Staten Island. Waititi and Clement are the writers so the comedy is a similar style.

They are also making a movie called "we're wolves" about werewolves that will take place in New Zealand.

I’ve actually never heard of it. I’ll give it a try. Just like Killing Eve. You don’t know until you try, right? ?

Yeah. Just watched Killing Eve. Great fun — incidentally, written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge of FLEABAG fame (See my post above) But you probably already know that.

No, I didn't. Thanks!

Damn it. Too many good shows, but in a sea of television crap, should be easy to appreciate. Thanks for the recommendation.

I was actually really looking forward to this series last year, but I was very disappointed with the final outcome.

I'm waiting so I can binge the second season. I was following the development of this series for a couple years before it was made. It was made by History Channel (like Vikings) and produced by Jeremy Renner, so I thought it would be pretty good.

But the end result was a practice in stereotypical semi-historical fantasy. History is filled with so many great stories that would put Game of Thrones to shame, but these people want to keep making the same old drivel. Templars? I get it that the main audience needs some kind of brand recognition, but I could immediately come up with at least twenty stories from the middle ages without resorting to this "holy grail bullshit."

What's next? Another series about Henry the 8th or Elizabeth? Head's up HBO.... let me give you my script on Edward the 3rd so we can dispense with this childish, fantasy bullshit. There are actually a lot of really good stories out there without resorting fucking Templars.

I just watched The Little Drummer Girl. It's a mini series based on a Novel by John le Carre.

There are so many good things about this show. If you are hoping for a generic spy thriller with car chases and such, then look elsewhere. This is an extremely well produced show that requires absolute attention.

The ideas of "good guys and bad guys" are blended and it does a very good job of showing the issues involved in the Israeli-Palestinian situation.

The acting is on point (especially Florence Pugh who I am developing a bit of a crush on).

I generally am quite disinterested in "spy thrillers" but this one is more about characters. And it doesn't use the generally cliches associated with the genre.

So far, it's mostly been about King Phillip of France conspiring with a corrupt Pope (weren't they all?), after killng the previous one, to discredit the Templars as heretics, so he wouldn't have to pay back the fortune he borrowed from them, plus steal their money. Then they tie it in with a Templar knight that fathered a baby with Phillip's Queen. The acting is well done and the sets are high quality.

As for anything, you have to put up with some hokiness.

I think in the past we discussed how 1066 A.D. would make a great series. I'd start years before to build the characters of Duke William of Normandy, Harold Godiwnson, his traitorous brother, Tostig, and the very entertaining Harold Hadratta the then King of Norway. Hell, Harald Hadratta entire life would make a great series all by himself.

I agree on Edward III. In fact, you could make a great series starting with his grandfather Edward I through him.

Stick to the true history and these type of real people are just as entertaining as anything fiction. I think so many creative types of writers, directors, etc. are too egotistical to not interject themselves into scripts and therefore, FUCK IT UP!

I loved the movie, Kingdom of Heaven, but in reality, Orlando Bloom's character, Balian, would've taken severeal years to develop the fighting skill he exhibited in the movie. But the scenes.... especially battle scenes were a lot of fun. Eva Green was hot, too, butnot as hot as she was in Sin City, A Dame to Kill For or 300: Rise of an Empire.
Catch 22.

Very very good.

Great acting, great cinematography. Great cast. It has a definite Cohen Brothers feel. Dark humor that get more dark and less humorous as the series progresses. Great commentary on war. I would suggest that all the dummies that put their hands on their chest during military flyovers at football games watch this show. I would suggest that they read the book instead, but we all know that will never happen....

I expect this to win several awards come Emmy season. Christopher Abbot (who plays Yosarian) is a great actor. I expect him to blow up in the next couple years.

I look forward to seeing this. Catch 22 is one of the best books I ever read. I sure hope the Cohen brothers truly capture it. Unfortunately, their last big movie, Hail Caesar, wasn't worth a damn shit. In fact, it totally sucked! But the vast majority of the Cohen's work is outstanding, so Catch 22 should be well worth a shot.

The old movie version with Diane Keaton was kind of so-so and missed the point on some of the issues so I was wondering how this would turn out. The novel was a favorite back in my spy thriller reading spree of the mid-late eighties.

That was fucking brilliant. Who knew? I've barely even heard of this show, but I sorta randomly clicked the clip because of the connection to Killing Eve (which I loved). I will check this out.
Just finished Hanna, season 1 (all they made so far ) an Amazon series, and started Poldark, a British drama,

It's definitely worth the watch. I didn't watch the old movie but I've heard that it was terrible.

This is a good six hours of entertainment. I like the fact that it was based on characters as opposed to action sequences.
I've been watching the Americans.

I tried to watch it numerous times before nothing really grabbed me. I've actually seen the first season twice. I just finished the second season and will watch all 6 but I'm still not seeing what is so great about it.

Is it me or does Kerri Russell look wayyy better now than she did 20 years ago?
Lots of good new TV shows coming out lately.

Euphoria...

I remember when MTV tried to make a remake of the British series "Skins". The american audience hated the fact that teenagers were doing drugs and having sex. They cancelled it after one season.

Euphoria is a very realistic take on the teenage scene, and I hope that the puritanical American audience doesn't get offended at the idea that their 16 year old might be having sex....

People have called it exploitative.... I think it's realistic.
