I just watched "Finding Oscar."
In the 80s, the Reagan government supported a right wing military dictatorship in Guatemala that conducted mass atrocities throughout the country. One of the most well know, was the Dos Erres massacre in which the US supported troops tortured, and murdered an entire village of over 200 indigenous Mayan people. The men were tortured for information and then beaten with sledge hammers and tossed into the village well. Many girls and babies were tossed in alive. A few young girls were taken by the soldiers and used as sex slaves before being murdered.
This occurred all over Guatemala with over 600 villages undergoing this fate.
But one child survived. One of the soldiers took him because he had light skin and green eyes. This documentary follows the search and finally finds him living living in the US over 30 years later.
Pretty good documentary, but I was more interested in the historical info. In North America, we tend to ignore the atrocities that occurred in places like Guatemala and El Salvador. I hope that they start making more movies about them.
