Phillip Schofield: ITV presenter comes out as gay

TV presenter Phillip Schofield has revealed he is gay, after 27 years of marriage to his wife Stephanie Lowe.

The 57-year-old made the announcement via a statement posted on his story.

"Today, quite rightly, being gay is a reason to celebrate and be proud," he wrote.

"Yes, I am feeling pain and confusion, but that comes only from the hurt that I am causing to my family."

Schofield presents ITV programmes including Dancing On Ice and This Morning, which won a National Television Award last week for best live magazine show.

I cant help thinking that the media response to this has been well over the top and indeed this annoucement by him and effectively ITV in addition. I do wonder what will happen to the breakfast show audience figures and also his marriage. I also struggle with believing that his wife and daughters have been, as he says, so very supportive.

just because he only know came out in public doesn't mean they haven't known for some time now. you'd be surprised how often gay men or women are in straight marriages and have worked it out with their spouses. other than sex, it would be exactly the same as any other marriage, and if their both on the same page about seeing other partners, no issue, really. frankly, i know a lot of amazing gay men that i wouldn't hate being married too (if i wasn't already) as long as we could both seek out other sexual partners.
