To me, it's rap with a a heavy country influence


Just my opinion as a Brit, someone who does not listen to country, so does not really know where the coal face of contemporary country music is at.

It's a bit like asking if is this folk music. It is a traditional folk song, but . . .WTF!

I don’t think this is country music at all and should have been pulled down. Just because the lyrics cite “riding on my horse” doesn’t qualify the song to be in the country genre.

To your point, yes there were many African Americans involved in the Wild West. However that doesn’t mean this song has to be included. Kane Brown for instance “raps” in a few of his songs, but he’s not in the rap genre.

Lines have blurred, but that doesn’t mean some limits should be maintained.

Personally, I'm not fond of narrow programming of any kind. CBC's music programs play a range of popular music styles. Even their "roots" program covers everything from folk to blues to country to pop and rock influenced by those styles. I'm more about variety than hearing one style exclusively. But, then again, I'm not a devotee of any particular style(s) of music. There's some I like better than others but I can happily skip from prog rock to folk to a classical sonata to whatever else catches my fancy.

Yeah, but it DEBUTED on the country charts at #19, and then got pulled off. Not the same as putting it in Rap to begin with. i won't say it's a racist decision, but it's definitely narrow-minded.
