The Golden Globes were last night and Ricky Gervais was the host again. I wanted to post his whole monologue, but I could only find this audio. I love how they keep hiring him and are unaware that he is constantly making fun of them.

Brad Pitt's acceptance was great.

Renee Zelwegger and Laura Dern were awful as usual. If I have to hear Laura Dern thank another "tribe of fierce women" for her award for the same role that she keeps playing I'm going to kill myself.

And as he said in his closing statements....

"Donate money to Australia...and now go get drunk, do your drugs and fuck off."

I adore his humour.
Ricky had some excellent material, my personal favourite being the old school-hairball bit. Damn funny.

I posted this elsewhere, but I wonder how many realize that only 87 people are eligible to vote on the Golden Globes versus almost 9000 that vote on the Oscars. Not sure if that means something or nothing, but the larger might better reflect the worthiness of the award. Or not. IDK.

Both Ellen’s and Tom Hank’s acceptance speeches were well done. Ricky’s tone and delivery seemed to change halfway through the show. He also seemed to be used less than previous times. I wonder if something happened back stage; was he ‘spoken’ to about his material? We may never know. Regardless, he was snarky. Just the way I like him.

I intend to see 1917 this weekend. I suspect voting was split between Joker and Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood, and 1917 came up the middle for the Golden Globe, the same way Missing Link beat Toy Story 4. But maybe 1917 is a better movie. IDK. I’ll find out in a few days.
Jennifer Aniston bugs me. But I'd still fuck her ten ways to Sunday.
Ricky was funny. I liked that he was pushing the envelope.
Brad Pitt's got a hard-on for 'LDC'. Didn't show up with a date. Mentioned him in his speech. Just sayin.
Renee was strange - drawled on and on, and right when the music started to play, crammed an even longer speech in. But, damn, she was buff.
Joaquin Phoenix was a bit strange, too. Thought he mighta been on something. Very Jack Sparrow-esque behavior. Though I've never seen him in interviews, perhaps he's always like that?
You can't tell me the Golden Globes folks didn't know what they were getting by having Ricky Gervais host. He's done the same thing each time he hosts. I love his humor, but the look on the faces of some in the audience was priceless. Every time he is on a show, he talks about wondering why they keep having him back.

I liked Tom Hanks and Ellen Degeneres' speeches. The rest was the typical award show trope. I did enjoy watching Patricia Arquette getting her award. I don't if those are new boobs, or they were engineered for maximum lift. I thought for sure one of them would escape. I didn't stay up to watch the whole show.

Yeah the GGs are generally known as the easiest award to be able to "buy." It's most likely that NBC/Universal bought 1917's best picture win.

The problem is that the majority of the Academy don't actually watch most of the movies that they vote on. So they use the Golden Globes to make their choices.

I've actually been waiting to see 1917 in theater, but before it won best pic it wasn't listed anywhere near me. Now it is and I'll watch it this weekend.

Missing Link was not a good movie. Word is, people were just throwing Laika a bone to keep the company in business. I find all the behind the scenes stuff as interesting as the actual awards.

And yes, Joaquin was most likely drunk. He is weird though to begin with. The Golden Globes are the only awards show to serve continuous alcohol.
Brutal AF. Ricky killed it as he always does.

I love his care-free attitude to comedy - speak the truth and burn it to the ground.

Joaquin has 'weirded it up' even more for other interviews he's done. He's always been a bit strange but in an oddly nice way. Seeing him as Johnny Cash *fans self* I mean, I'd fuck him now tbh, not just when he played Cash.
You've welcome.
