I know that there are other movie threads out there....

But let's start a thread about actual filmography.

What movies have you seen lately? Give us your thoughts. What movies are you looking forward to? This is the thread for all discussion regarding movies.
I just watched "Spring Breakers."

This is a perfect example of how the marketing teams fuck up. This is an artistic film with a subtle social commentary interspersed with flashes of realism.

The majority of the people watching this movie, are expecting an "American Pie" style movie. It's not... If you want to watch a movie that deals with that kind of stuff, please go elsewhere.

This scene is a great montage. The Britney Spears is awesome in that it completely goes against the rest of the movie.

I've always been a spiderman fan, and Venom was one of my favorite story lines. When they first remade Spiderman with Tobey MacGuire, I was waiting for a Venom story. Alas... my spirits were dashed with cinematic garbage fire that was Spiderman 3. I mean... Topher Grace as Eddie Brock? Terrible.

So I was pleased when Sony decided to come out this this new reincarnation (and with Tom Hardy no less.)

The first hit to this film was the abysmal PG-13 rating. You can't have a Venom movie that is rated PG.

As for the movie itself, there were good things and bad things. Tom Hardy was good and the psychic internal dialogue between Eddie and Venom was good, but the movie seemed like it was a mishmash of different ideas. 1/3 cheesy sci-fi. 1/3 Horror. 1/3 funny deadpool-style superhero comedy. The villain was superbly boring and one note. The action was a cgi-induced snooze and the plot was terribly generic.

And now Woody Harrelson is going to play Carnage in the sequel? He's way too old. Maybe natural born killers Woody.... And I just can't see a Carnage movie rated PG. This could have been a very dark, semi-comedic antihero movie, but they opted to try and sell happy meals and toys to 8 year olds in stead. The whole spiderman-venom-carnage scenario is one of the best that marvel has to offer, but I think they shot themselves in the foot.

They still salvaged a mediocre movie, but compared to the quality of stuff Marvel has been putting out, this was a bit of a miss. I hope they can pull it around for the sequel because this character is too goo to waste.
Just saw Bohemian Rhapsody.

Is it a great way to spend two hours? Yes.
Is it one of the greatest films of all time? No.

I did enjoy this film and Rami Malik does a great job as Freddy Mercury but he's not got that extra something Freddy had and the performance just seemed a little lacking somehow. I also loved the recreation of the Live Aid set but couldn't help wondering if a documentary with actual Live Aid footage would have been just as good / better.

Hmm, I might need to watch the film again (in a soundproof room so I can sing along, loudly)

I would liked to see Sasha Baron Cohen play Mercury. Apparently the band had issues with him. He wanted to make a far more edgy and realistic film. They wanted something more family friendly.

I haven't seen the movie yet. But I thought Rami Malek and his fake teeth were a bit too understated for this story.
It's getting close to the end of the year, so the quality of movies is going way up as awards season approaches.

A relatively good, dark comedy with and element of mystery. Blake Lively's character is great.

If you like that style, then check out:

Another black comedy. Very original.

And you are a cinefile, Under the Silver Lake just came out. A very weird, very trippy film with a great cast. (Might be better to be high when you watch this one though.)
