I've seen the first two seasons. It's more good television than it is good history, but while (for me) I enjoy good acting and by and large, the cast delivers in spades.

I saw the very first episode, and tuned out after that.

I love it! No, it isn't historically accurate, but its a drama, not a documentary, and it delivers good medieval action and stories.
If anything, it dispels that stupid horned helmet BS. I'm going to go to the local medieval banquet as Legertha!

Yes, was hooked after the first one. I have been a Viking fan since grade school for some reason so
it's been a pleasure to be able to view a show about their lifestyle and culture even if it is fiction. It really
is a well produced show. The sons of Ragnar exact their revenge! Ha! What's next for Lagertha?

It is on my list for my Roku, but I did watch season 1 of The Last Kingdom, which is similar, from a different POV.

been binge watching the past few weeks. half way thru season 4 now. it's sooooo good. Lagertha kicks ass. smile

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

The problem is that it aired (in Canada at least) on History Television which gave it at least the veneer of history for the less educated watchers. Only saw a couple episodes before I cancelled the satellite package that gave me History and it looked terrific as a medieval drama series, though.

For those who loves them some Norse, Neil Gaiman's retellings of the Norse myths from the Prose Edda and related sources is out. It's called Norse Mythology and it's selling like hotcakes.

The second half of the last season dropped about a week ago. It covers the discovery of Greenland and Vinland, as well as the Battle of Edington when the Vikings were defeated by Alfred the Great.

If you are a fan of the series, don't fret.... A new series titled Vikings Valhalla will be coming out this year. It jumps forward about a hundred years and covers and covers figures like Leif Erickson, Harald Hardrada, and William the Conqueror.

Thanks for the heads up about Valhalla. I wondered if they'd take it forward to that period, cover Harald Hadrada's exploits.

I've loved every moment of the Vikings but was sorely disappointed with that final battle. Armies just did not fight in such a manner during the Viking Age. Both sides would form a shield wall, and then bash the fuck out of each other for a couple of hours until one side began to lose the will to continue. Most deaths would happen when one side broke and made a run for it.

The directors seemed to think a shield wall was the equivalent of the Roman army's Testudo formation, served it up only in exceptional circumstance.

The Total War franchise renders battle scenes far more authentically than filmmakers. Perhaps the director of Viking's was hamstrung by covid restrictions, had to have the actors remain three meters apart. It certainly looked that way at the height of the battle. Let's hope they make a better job of The Battle of Stamford Bridge and Hastings in the forthcoming Valhalla.
