As a newcomer to Lush, I was curious as to the importance of contributing stories to one's "success" as Lush. Is it possible to have a fruitful existence here without writing, or does creating stories somehow endear one more so to the masses?

Well Katherine first of all welcome to Lush.
Everyone determines what they want to contribute and what they want to get back.

So you can be a very happy and successful Lushie without writing a single story, many people do.
Some people are hugely active on the chatrooms making friends, having fun and finding their place there.
Others prefer to post on the forums and can be found actively putting messages all over the boards.

The most important thing is to start by trying as many different things as you can and when you find where you feel most comfortable and get the most pleasure from keep doing that.

I usually recommend anyone who writes or who likes being around people who do to come visit Rumps bar in the Pub forum.
There's a great crowd there, we have lots of fun and we like to see new faces.

Hope that helps a little.

Whatever was posted is always meant in love and respect never to offend.
I'm also highly likely to have posted this from a phone so there may be typos or odd word changes, auto correct can be a pain.

I've been listening to my kinky pencil here's my current work

As she said, there's plenty here who just chat in the chatrooms (in fact, there's almost a whole separate community in the chatrooms from what I've seen), post in the forums, and read what we writers spew out. Personally, I am more about the writing and forums and not really doing much of the former right now. Welcome!
I think it depends on your motivation for joining. Technically I've been here for over 10 years, but I was inactive for about 8 of them. I came here just to post a couple of stories. I came back in 2019, but it wasn't until the summer of 2020 that I discovered the community aspect in the forums and that made my experience as a writer better. Others enjoy the chatrooms.

This is all absolutely true. There are more than 525,000 members and only about 62,000 stories.

However, I would encourage you to at least think about contributing a story or stories. It's very satisfying to get something published. There are plenty of tips on the forum about how to do it, or you can just wing it and do it as you wish. People on here are usually quite generous to new writers and all writers in general.
Your article is really interesting. I am waiting for new articles from you.

I'm echoing all said above, especially the welcome.

I don't write very much, and it took a long time for me to even get to my first pale effort. However, I believe that one can have quite a bit of fun on Lush participating in selected forums. Some are actually challenging, others, well, how many times can you say "I'd <insert verb> the person [above, below]"!

The nice thing about the more creative forums (poetry of some sort, parsimonious use of words to describe something, imagery matching a theme, vocabulary twists, and so on) all require actual thinking, but, perhaps, not the dedicated time to writing a story. Well, at least the time is spread over multiple time-sinks rather than just one!

It can be somewhat challenging to locate some of these, but you may find some that you really enjoy!

Now, all that said, if you have an idea for a story or verse, give it a shot!
Hi Katherine, and welcome. I'm new too and wasn't sure about writing, but once I joined it was all I could think about and so I did! I've read so many great stories here before I joinged, so I was inspired.

I sent in my first one (maybe only one if it flops) yesterday, but I don't know how long it takes. Had to figure out a few things, but it was easy. So anyway I'm so glad you posted here because I didn't know about Rump's Bar before. Now I need to go stop in and say hi!

Please take a peek at my stories! Here's a small variety pack:

To Soar With Eagles | Lush Stories An emotional story of love and loss that may touch your heart. Sexy... yes, of course, but uplifting as well! And a Recommended Read!

I Like Big Cocks and I Cannot Lie: Part 1 of 2 | Lush Stories A 2-part story of my bisexual husband and I engaging with a very well-endowed friend!
