How high do you want to read about a sex scene? I am writing a story I'm extremely happy with but I'm afraid I'll lose readers quickly. There is no sex yet and the story is long enough to be a like a prologue. It's based off a real relationship I have with someone and how I felt instantly connected to him, so the hottest my story gets so far is how just a brush from his leg can send electric bolts through her body. I know there is a sister site to Lush but once my story gets to the sex I know it will belong here! So is it a problem if the sex or even oral doesn't come until part two?
My first question is... how long is 'long'?
Do you need to break it into two parts? All of my stories are routinely in the 8,500-10,000 word range on this site. I think you're more likely to lose readers if you don't have a strong sex scene somewhere in the first chapter of the story unless you are an exceptional writer. How long will your overall story be? More than 10,000 words? If it's shorter than that, then I'd post the whole thing as a single story.
All of my stories have plot and character development before the sex scenes. If you can hold the readers attention with your writing and storyline while you're doing the initial 'teasing' and 'slow burning flirtation' between the characters, then most will be happy to stay with the story for the big "climax" scene. Or the impatient ones can always skip ahead, but at least you have it contained in a single story rather than leaving readers on the hook at the end of chapter one being disgruntled because there wasn't any sex.
To my understanding though, if you consider posting it in the "love stories" section, then sex isn't even required, so you can always work with it that way if the category fits.
If there's good tension and chemistry between the two people involved, it keeps my interest regardless of whether there's a sex scene to follow. I like the anticipation and the build up. It lets me get to know the characters and understand why they're together.
