Depends on my mood, sometimes i want to jump right into the steamy parts, other times I want a long build up. In any case, I want a reason to give a crap about the characters, so there needs to be some sort of story interwoven.
And unfortuantely that isn't always the case. I stop reading a lot of stories if they're just "sex scenes" pieced together.
I feel I want the reader to identify with the protagonist, so need to set that up. The reader would probably have chosen the category the story is set in so has an interest in that, as I will have, because that's why I chose the category to begin with.
