Right now I'm finishing up a short story I've written about a guy who has done a frenulum split on himself.
Um - I tried to search and see if others were even into this at all and I can't find very much per stories and such on the net - let alone on Lush. So I feel, now, as if I've gone too far and stepped into the deep end.
Does anyone even know what this is? Should I even dare publish this story on Lush? LOL Of all the things - this is the one that concerns me.

No, I did not know. I had to look it up. I was wondering if you were meaning when someone splits their tongue. I was close! I am still not sure which one you mean. Mouth, tongue, penis?

I think the read and any topic or kink would depend on how it is written. (So I think most anything can be good and is fair game).
I have been told to "write to the audience" and when writing to write with the audience you are writing for in mind. I have been told to write to a 6th or 7th grade level, too. I have been told things about erotica as well. (With some of these these things I agree, with some of them I do not. I understand but may approach differently.) I know these people who have expressed these sentiments are experts or real-life respected authors, yet I tend to decide what I need to do for myself. You win some and loose some that way, but then you do that with life anyway. You will decide too and learn from the outcome.
One of your tags may be "frenulum" -but you will have other tags to describe and possible other draws, I would suspect. You will just have to see how you feel. Obviously you put work and effort into this (?) and it is not a forbidden topic. There may be a niche. You offer something different, so I'm not completely sure your cause for concern when many here write for the love of writing and what interests "them" anyway.
What if it isn't well met? (I need to follow my own advice and work on my story!)

Yes - what if it isn't well met. What if I freak out the readers and push them away from reading more of my stories? How much do I care?

I think I don't care at all. More so: I don't think that will actually happen. I went pretty extreme with my anal fisting story and that's one of my most popular ones. All the essentials will be covered in this frenulum split piece: building sexual tension, exploring some psychological components, background - overall story quality is there.
So it's a matter of broaching a questionable subject and explaining it well enough so the reader understands, and then the reader is okay with it - still enjoys the story to the fullest. (like you said, anything can be appealing if written right)
Maybe the only way for me to find out is to write it - publish it - and then see.
Per the split - I haven't quite decided how extreme this one guys body modification is. I don't want it too extreme (I've seen some pictures where the before and after was day and night). But it needs to be enough to where it alters - heightens - hi sexual pleasure and gives the girl a strange introduction to things about him and his lifestyle.
The sexual venture reflects their relationship dynamic: he's a goth thrash metal singer, she's a luthier who makes violins. They're totally opposite and sort of fit together in some ways.

Huh. I never knew that this was done intentionally as part of body modification, only knew of accidental cases. Personally, if the rest of the story follows the body modification theme, I don't see how it would scare off anyone. And if it does...well, you just have to throw it up there and see if it sticks.
