What makes them great?
I think that it's easy to list all the mods .... most are great writers. Non-mods ... I'd take Frank_Lee, hands down. He is brilliant!
I like to find those gems that fly under the radar .... JeffreyB and CharlotteRusse1 for amazing wonderfully written stories ... and Lyrical and Mare24 for beautiful poetry.

I would also like to add that I have been at sites like this for 8+ years and read a lot of stories (small thousands probably). But no site I have been to has had as many high quality writers as a percentage of the whole as this; and as many writers who truly work so hard at their craft. We all have a couple of people or more that we like who don't seem to have gotten noticed yet. I would like to pay them their due as well, yourself included.
I think too that there are people here who read a lot of stories in a week and without them a lot of "aspiring Lisas" would be pretty discouraged. So I would urge readers
to wander off the beaten paths too.
Finally, I urge you all to find a friend who would love to be a published author on this site and encourage them to get something together. It doesn't have to be
Lev Tolstoy's "War and Peace" or a poet like Yeats or Dickinson. Few things in human life can be as wonderful as the sense of pride and accomplishment as being published and appreciated, if only by a few. It does so much for our sense of well being....or in some cases, our sense of "naughty-being[!!]" than to have our "shingle hung out," that we are somebody to be taken notice of!

Completely agree with this... she is quickly becomming one of my favorites. All the others mentioned here are also high on my list but one other who was mentioned only once was Smiler77.
