Looking for collaborative writers

I've had the idea since I wrote my first story - to collaborate with another writer (I call myself that loosely) for a number of reasons:

  • I have weaknesses in many areas, - some are scene setting, character building, which another writer may have strengths in

  • My writing of actual sex scenes could do with more sensuality & a woman's sesnibility

  • My techniques of show Vs tell needs lots of work as does dialogue

  • I feel I could progress far faster as a writer if discussing story structure, story ideas, etc with another co-author

I simply don't know how this sort of arrangement works. If anyone wants to relate their experience of this & any advice they'd give here?

I am willing to try it on some story ideas I have, if there are any budding female writers interested in working on a story collaboratively?

I guess Google Doc is the best way to do this collaborative writing?

No one even mildly interested?

I’d be willing to give it go. I have never done a collaborative story either but it would be a good learning experience. I am still somewhat new to the game but I am trying to turn out stories quickly. I have been praised for my dialogue writing and story content. I would like to branch out my storyline and collaboration might be just the thing. Check out some of my stories and let me know if you're interested.

Maybe cast a line with a general theme/basic plot and see if that attracts any bites. The collaboration could even start right here on the forum at first. In another place I post, that's how chain stories where authors take turns with chapters get started.

"Want to collaborate on something?" isn't nearly as enticing as something like "Want to collaborate on a story where..."

Toss out several ideas you've come up with that haven't completely jelled. We've all got them. Maybe one of yours will mesh up with someone else's.

Good Will ---|--- Three Alarm <= Both almost famous, give them a read and get them one step closer!

Hey, thanks guys for the replies - somehow, I'm not getting notifications of replies here?
Good idea to shoot out some story ideas & see if there are any who bite.

It may be a way into a longer collaboration? What I am looking for is to jointly learn from & advance both our writing skills together.

As I'm a male, & my stories are usually heterosexual, I wanted a female perspective to bring realism to the female character in my stories - the realistic thoughts, emotions, feelings & concerns! And vice-versa,I'm hoping I could bring a male perspective to male characters in other stories!

I’d love to try this, I have trouble staying consistent when writing so an accountability partner to work with would be lovely.

I've done a about five collaborations (more stories,) all with writer friends. Occasionally it has been to add specific skills, Grusha's musical knowledge was key to our collaboration which I initiated as I knew it was a weak spot of mine and yet my plot idea was bound to orchestral music.

Otherwise it is just been that collaboration is so much fun; you both add when you chat about the plot etc. But recognize that some don't like collaboration as they feel pressurised by it. I'm more inclined to think the idea to work together is what should spark this rather than the plot per se. And the point about accountability is so right.

And use Google docs, I've collaborated by swapping emails on Lush and version control was so hard. Google docs is a Godsend and I can't recommend it highly enough.
