Proofreading: What is THAT all about?
Part of the problem is submitting a story as soon as you have finished it and made as many corrections as you think necessary. A lapse of time, minimum 24 hours, maximum ten years or so, is a good idea. The mistakes, typos, repetitions etc suddenly seem all too obvious when you reread the text after being away from it for a while.

oh, how true this is - i shudder at some of the glaring mistakes in some of my older stories, and the only thing keeping me from fixing them is making all the mods cranky at me - i look on it a reminder to edit more carefully and a learning experience

Actually, no. You might be surprised at this Alan, but the world doesn't revolve around you. That was a dig at myself, because one of the stories I posted elsewhere was one I did write over ten years ago, dusted off and edited the crap - literally - out of it, making it a presentable story, at long last.
For the record, it received an EP when it was published elsewhere; I'm just not saying where it is published...

I have noticed that the system lets you make small changes without sending it back to the mods. I think it depends on how much you change. A couple of words are okay but a whole sentence will trigger the "mode return" action thingie...and annoyance lol.

It IS NOT a moderator's job to edit stories.......
Moderators on Lush only APPROVE stories or send stories back to Writers to be re-edited..... For reasons we explain.... (We can and do perform tiny edits, BUT, that's not our job.....)
Our job is to approve the posting of carefully crafted and well written stories onto a Site we all respect....
We ARE NOT Editors........ (Though sometimes we do that because we're really, really nice......) But that's not the job...... And sometimes we simply don't have the time.....
And we LOVE new stories because that's what makes it work...... (But if you don't paragraph I'll THWOK it back to you like a Serena Williams' serve....)
And if your punctuation sucks I can't always find the time to correct that......
(Mostly I try.......)
Help us out...... PROOF your pieces before you post......

I hope you realise that deleting an account for whatever reason, then coming back again and resubmitting previously submitted and verified stories / files is a real pain for the volunteers here.
Nicola posted about this but, sadly, I can't find her message. I do wish I could.
Because deleting, losing stories, coming back and resubmitting for verification makes a whole lot more work for the volunteer mods who keep this place going.

Perhaps Mazza could post the audio on the internet and post the hyperlink here where we could listen to her story without increasing the workload on the already overworked unpaid volunteer mods.

Of the countless stories that I have verified, - and I only verify stories in the edit mode; meaning if spell check or I see a mistake, I correct it along the way, as with punctuation - I have only had a small handful (maybe two) of 'thank you's' for verifying, and only one thank you for taking my time to edit their story. These days, I get more complaints about knocking a story back because they broke site guidelines, than appreciations.
As for time, well, with more and more members joining, we are getting more and more submissions. Some days, we have time to edit stories, but some days, we are that busy, we don't even have time to say hi to our friends. Being a story verifier is often a thankless and eventually a friendless job.
So, I would like to say thank you to those that say thank you to us
and to those that don't, now you know why we don't edit your stories LOL Active Ink Slinger

Oh, Please, Please don't think I was offended! I'm just trying to explain what we do....
AND, My Own stories frequently contain HOWLERS that make me blush!
(Especially if it's a story I like, I'll frequently correct errors I notice.... But more experienced Moderators have, with considerable grace and tact, explained to me that taking too much time over One story is unfair to the other writers in the queue. Also, simply correcting a Writer's errors is not really helping the Writer get better at the craft of writing.)
None of us are prefect...... Dammit, I meant perfect! (See?!!???)

I would edit mine a hundred times over but when i changed a couple of mistakes in Ch 1 of a series, it got rejected over a scene which was in it the first time.(???( So it took a week or so before i finally got it resubmitted, and uploaded, with as little changes as possible. And it was a pain because chapters 2, 3 and 4 etc were on my profile but there was no chapter one!
But yeah, my favourite mod, who doesn't even know she's my favourite, once edited a story for me before it was published which was really nice.

I'm glad I found this posting, because as a 'noobie' here I was curious what the etiquette was on editing a published story.
I find the beauty of the internet is that nothing is really 'etched in stone' like a published book and can be revised like a 'work-in-progress'. If the changes are easy to determine (through being highlighted or whatever), I can see it as bothersome but not pain-staking for the mods.
That being said, despite not having any feedback on the stories I've written so far (which I'm totally cool with), I'm thinking I've gone overboard with some details and am considering condensing them in the future so that they read much faster and smoother (which I would think are desirable story traits here). However, before I bother editing, I really want to know all I can so that it can be the final edit.
I should probably post this question elsewhere, but still trying to find out about how to add Audio to a story as well. Couldn't find any answers on FAQ or Forum Search.
* Do we need to be subscribers for a certain length of time first or hold a certain status?
* Is there a certain place to upload the audio here or is it linked from another site?
