So I have a new story written, but I am trying to do something a bit different (for me). I am writing a companion piece that rather than being a prequel or sequel, happens in parallel. You see, the one that I have written is about a groom getting left at the altar and getting some "comfort" (of the Lush variety) from a good friend. Now I want to write what happens to the bride in roughly the same timeframe. That may be followed by a third story that is a sequel to both and ties things back together but we shall see. But, damn, it is harder than I thought. I had something written yesterday but realized it broke a couple of the touchpoints I had set up in the groom's story so I'm back to square one trying to rewrite it to fit better.
Anyone else who has done this before care to share wisdom (surely it's not a new idea on Lush)? Did you just actually keep cross-referencing as you wrote to keep things in sync or just write the parallel piece and then deal with sync'ing things up later?
Hi Seeker4.
OceanRunner and VirgoGo did a collaboration of this variety about two months back (roughly). Their "Bling and a Blowjob (His / Hers)" stories. Mike (OR) telling the tale from one perspective and VirgoGo from the other. Have a read and see if this is the vein you're thinking. I'm sure they'll see this and pop in anyway. Good luck!
Greetings. I noticed in the Bar that you were referring to this writing project. I've also written a series called Death in the Family. It has three parts and they are from various viewpoints of people in the household, including the new widow, and some of the servants in the house. It might be of interest to you.
That's sounds like a great idea. Good luck. I did something like that with the Open stories and it was really fun.
One problem I had was not noticing that some of the details contradicted each other in the two stories, because I had misremembered what I had written in the other story (some of that was on purpose in my stories, but that's just me being weird). So reread to make sure the details match up. And I also found I needed to change the plot of the first story while I was writing the second story, because I figured out a better way to plot it. I actually went back and did a rewrite of the first story on Lush right before I submitted the second story. So realize you can go back in and change the first story if you find a better way to do it.
I love writing from a woman's POV. It's hot to be inside a woman's head.
Good luck! It sounds like a cool project.
Well, something I was thinking about for story 2 poked a bit of a hole in story 1. There's a scene of "dialogue" (it's people texting back and forth rather than talking, hence the quotes) that appears in both and as I was revisiting it for the second story, I realized that something about it didn't make sense. So now I'm going to write a new version for the second story and then go back and revise it in the first to match.
So, after working on the second story for a bit, I have realized two things;
- I went in an altogether wrong direction in the second story. I basically turned the bride into a "slut" and that's not what's needed.
- A key element in the first story felt seriously forced. I had another version that flowed better but involved sex between two people that I wasn't sure should be getting it on, even though it felt right putting them together.
So I'm not sure where this is going now. I hope it's just me having second thoughts due to my struggles with the second one and maybe I'll get back on an even keel later but if I scrap and start over as I'm currently thinking ... this project could be another stillbirth. It is rare for me to scrap and restart and actually finish. Once that happens, SHIFT+DELETE isn't far behind. I have a lot of those which is why i publish so rarely anymore.
