I've received some very nice comments on some of my stories, and was wondering if there was an appropriate way to say 'thank you' within the site. Do other authors here often add their own gratitude comments to the comment lists, or is that considered gauche?

You could always add your own comment to your story, too, in the form of a thank you. I've seen that before.
Thanks all! I think I will go the comments route, for now at least. I've tended to respond in kind to comments when I can - e-mail for e-mail, private message for message, so that rings consistent for me. Of course, for anyone that actually reads this post and has liked any of my stories, thanks to you as well!
