Well thanks for your thoughts Pam. I'm sure Lush will take it under advisement.
This is like Deja Vu Pam.....
I am going to post this for the second time as I did in your previous Anonymous thread.....
"You can hear something negative from a member or non-member....either way its someone's opinion but it doesn't mean they are right.....its just an opinion....as long as what you write is good enough for you it should not matter who comments or not......IMHO"
Now I know this is two different issues but I wanted to hit them both on the nail. Anonymous comments and low scoring without a reason why.
I am a writer here as well and I have had my fair share of 1's or 2's and it does not make me lose the will to try to write again. No one can expect that everyone is going to like thier work that is impossible. When you write and post anywhere you have to do it with the assumption that not everyone is going to like it and be ok with the comments you do get. Why people have this incessant need to know why someone gave them a one or a two as a score is beyond me. I wonder if that particular author REALLY wants to hear that some thinks their work is crap?....I think you can kinda have to assume that from the 1 or 2 score that was given. I personally post because I love to write regardless of what people think.
Like Chef said Lush will take it under advisement but for the meanwhile let's stick to the norm since its worked pretty well since this site got started.
"Love all, trust a few, and do wrong to none."
I post my stories on another site too, and if you think the rate-and-runs are bad here, you should see it over there! It's just something you have to try and take in your stride, as difficult as it is sometimes.
If a reader has never written a story before, they don't know how much time goes into writing. They also don't understand how much we obsess over a word or phrase, trying to get it just right. Reading a story takes just a few minutes of their time, and if they don't enjoy that time, they're going to let the writer know.
You'll never really know the reasons behind your scores. The subject matter of a flawless story may not appeal to the reader, so it scores low. A story may be filled with errors, but the theme turns the reader on, so it scores high.
The ratings are great as a rough guide, but try not to take them personally. Don't let it get you down!
We are in the process of changing this so someone has to sign up to comment. It will not stop negative votes or comments, but should reduce the dross a little.
I give 5 points to any story that's laid out properly ...
so very rarely
including spelling and grammer. I do as well. Has to make some kind of sense too. Just ramblings and so on, don't do it for me.

I decided to finally post my poem because it was something I wanted to share with others. Some will like it, others will not. It all depends on what a person's opinion is.
Pam you are a sweetheart for being annoyed that someone rated my poem low, but I honestly don't care. The people that matter to me said wonderful things about it. That's what matters to me.
Yes, it is easy to be a critic when one remains anonymous. I choose to ignore people like that. Life's too short to worry about cowards.

Lose My Breath is my story for the Elements story competition. I hope you'll check it out!
When I first started writing I would get upset over a negaive comment or low rating, until I realized that if I was happy with the end result that was all that really mattered. I'm thankful or the good scores and praise but just don't let the negative get me down and I continue on.
A lot of these analyses assume we're dealing with mature, adult readers. This is the net, and that's not always the case. "Kids" sneak onto their parent's computer or use their own, and they giggle and laugh if they can cause some mischief or rain on somebody's parade. That's life on the Internet.
Jealousy is something to remember whenever there is "voting" going on somewhere. A person just posted their own story, read someone's that was written better, and BAM, the competitor's is voted low.
It's impossible to "force" people to say things or even know what their thoughts were/are. Any time a field is required to be filled in with something, people will rebel, especially on a free site.
So I'll say what I've always said, and you just read other people say it: don't fret the low votes. Who cares? You carefully craft a good story in your eyes and put it out there for the enjoyment of others. Nuff said.
I read what I like and say what I think.
If all you want is good, write but don't post or publish.
If you read say what you think but say it kindly if you don't like something.
Give the writer a break - be honest - be helpful.
If it isn't your type of story, say so.
Give good points and bad with a comment.
Just my thoughts and poor wording.
