I don't know about finding one that is too thick....I have never had that problem before...but I do believe that you are right, the thicker the sausage, the more sauce you will need.

Now, when the hot dog is too long for the bun, I usually just bite the end off and it fits just fine.

...and also, one should remember to not bite off more than you can chew at any one time...
