I had always been a "trimmer" since my teens. Ex-fiance begged for shaved, I tried it for a while and hated and we settled on a landing strip. After we broke up I went back trimmed. and not so thick, but never clean shaven again.

But I also think that being (clean Shaven) is still mostly a western thing,
started in the west, maybe 20-25 years ago,
and most of the rest of the world, definitely most here in Europe,
still prefer what you call (Bushy) as it has always been,
or doesn't care about it at all either way.
