Yep. I always read the profiles. How else would I know if there was a chance at making a contact? Still looking for that lady with the same desires as mine so we can chat some time. Seems its not easy for us older guys to hook up on here even though we still know how to please a lady:-)
I wonder why someone would NOT look at a profile when looking to make friends or even responding on the Forum.

I do every time, I'm very particular about who I allow on my friends list and if their profile gives me a bad vibe or they give me a bad vibe I won't accept it. You can tell a lot about them by the things they post.
I look each and every time even when I get a friend request. I don't go by just their message alone even then.
Yes I always check the profiles, it's the same in the chat rooms, I always check the profile after the initial hello. It shows, I feel, that you are at least interested enough to find out something about them. I can't see the point in chatting to someone, or asking them to be your friend if you can't be bothered to look beyond the face pic . Like you said, we are not all here for the sex, but then again if we weren't here for at least a little bit of that, we wouldn't be here at all.
I allway read the profile. Well it would be rude not too thats why they have written something there in the first place. To filter out people that they maybe dont want on there friends list or to make sure they get the right people on it. The same as when somebody asks me to be a friend I will look at there profile.
If it's a simple 'Hi' then it gets rejected immediately. Unless the requester has bothered to make the effort to write something then I don't bother to even look at their profile. But in general I'd give their profile a look.

I am like 95% good at reading profiles find it interesting. I think that is why I have a low count of friends. I just wish guys would put more or even put in a short bio on them selves. I said would never accept without some kind of bio but I have.

To post something in response on the Forums without seeing what the person your responding to has for interests, likes, what have you, to me is rude in the extreme. How can you know that they'll smile, giggle or even get 'interested' in your response without knowing such things.
To ask someone to be a friend without getting to know at least a little about them is also quite un-mannerly. Learn about the person at least a bit before making that connection.
To do otherwise, in my opinion, is to toss darts blindly and hope they hit the wheel, much less make a bullseye.
I recently purged the scant profiles from my Friends list. If you can't be bothered to at least put a little something in your profile then why should I friend you??? Some people and I never talk but I like them so they are on my list.

Every time - I choose friends because I believe I will enjoy their company. I dont accept friends requests unless I have asked them first.
