I've been watching porn regularly since I borrowed my first Porno off a friend almost 12 years ago. I've always thought I enjoyed it, and masturbating was as much a part of my daily life as going to the shops to buy Milk. As time has gone on, I've ended up chasing bigger and bigger porn thrills, because I've been into it so long that the conventional methods are boring for me now, so unless the female involved is a squirter, anal fiend, or doing DP, I probably won't even bother watching it.

Recently I've been looking into the effects that Porn has on the average human mind, because I've really been wanting to change my lifestyle and cut my ties to it. I'm ready to bet that most of the men, and at least some of the women, on here, are also regular porn users. After looking into a few articles I found myself agreeing with alot of accusations that porn is very unhealthy on the phyche, warps a persons sexual mind, can even have a detrimental effect on motivation in other aspects of life, such as work and hobbies. It's also led me to think that some parts of the performance (such as DP or fisting) starts to be viewed as something natural and normal after viewing it for a prolonged period of time. It's even fair to say that it influences one to look at person in a much more sexual way than prior to porn watching, even when you were attracted to them, you still viewed them as people. But afterwards it's almost like they aren't viewed as people, just a pussy on legs.

Even the porn performers have reported a issues with mental well being, and psychological distress after being in porn films. It's fair to remember that, no matter what these girls do on the screen, they are still human beings, and also sons and daughters. In fact...they are boarderline prostitutes...

There is also other feelings surrounding masturbating to porn, such as guilt or loss of self worth (baring in mind im not religious, the guilt is more because giving into desire, instead of getting out there and making things happen in life), and desiring the performers thinking "Why can't I get a girl like that?", when the answer is simply, "because you're in your bedroom masturbating to porn".

Now I'm not knocking masturbation here, which I think is a perfectly healthy act, as can be part of a health lifestyle. What I am saying is, is it more healthy to have one without the other? Leaving the porn to one side and using imagination and memories, is that more healthy for ones sexual outlook?

I'd like to get some opinions here. So...

Are there people here who watch porn who believe it may be causing a problem?
Is anybody losing interest in sex in real life, but still watching porn regularly.
Do you believe porn has a detrimental effect on a persons psyche?
Do you feel unsatisfied after watching porn, like the time spent wasn't really worth it?
Is there anybody who has stopped watching porn, or even abstained from masturbating regularly, and noticed a positive output in their life, such as engaging in hobbies more, or better performance at work?
Do you believe that some of the acts you see on screen are a natural part of life, or that the pornstars are truely happy with their lives?
Can you enjoy masturbating without the aid of porn?

I'm just interested in getting some opinions here.
I think if you watch porn and think it is real then yes that might be a problem

I mean the pro's...no one looks like that or sounds like that

for the now and then wank..why not

but if it takes the place of real life sex

then it is a problem

I like porn not everyday

but sex is wonderful

but I pefer the amateur ones

as they seem more real to me

a waste of time never I don't watch more than a few minutes at a time

sex is never a waste of time
The porn industry is a like a roller coaster that is starting to go off the rails. The beginning of the ride is fine. I've watched vintage porn before and it's mostly just standard sex and cheesy music. Probably the kind of thing that would put most of us to sleep at this point because we've seen all that before. The whole "show us something new" attitude has expanded pornography in both positive and negative ways. The positive is that it's given license to some dirtier fantasies that many women crave and a kind of 'sexual liberation' to some. Rough sex, dp, gangbangs. Would these fantasies have existed without the influence of porn? Maybe, maybe not.

We're certainly over the whole 'lay on your side with a blank expression as you tilt your head to the ceiling and do contrived moans while XYZ guy methodically does the In-N-Out on your burger' scenes. People want more. Performers are expected *to do* more. And hence we've entered an era of 'shock porn' that is forming the new baseline for teenagers because that's what they're immediately exposed to. Now you can see anal prolapse porn, three-dicks in one hole porn, gaping orifices that look like gyno surgery more than sex, toilet dunking porn, guys beating girls up and slapping them around gratuitously and then fucking them. I have, on a few occasions, wondered what the more extreme shock porn does to the senses of young impressionable people - because this is what they're growing up with. This is their new norm. Are they expecting their 18 yr old girlfriend to comply with some of this stuff?

Recently, I saw reference to a porn by Nacho Vidal and Kara Price on a thread in an adult dvd forum where people were questioning how this video could have been made and that it looked like legit abuse. People - even the ones that feed off the hardcore stuff - were disturbed by it. They thought the porn starlet had gotten in beyond her control and how it felt almost like sexual-snuff and shouldn't be out on the market - all this coming from exactly that video's target audience base. Then the camera-man showed up to explain that it was Kara who had requested the video and been behind the direction of it. Safe words were employed and in the end, despite being 'wrecked on film' with obvious injuries - she had originally wanted it to be even rougher than what ended up happening but was overall happy with how it went down. Now, I haven't watched this vid - it's really not my thing - but it did make me think about what it's doing to the minds of the people that seek this kind of shock-porn out. To say that it doesn't leave a lasting influence or warp the sexual mind is being naive. A guy that gets off to that kind of stuff on a regular basis may lose his ability to even get it up for your average cute college girl wanting plain old doggy style. It also makes me question whether the female porn stars are doing this strictly for the cash or to try to outdo what's already on the market or whether their own minds have been warped along the way and now this is how they get their own kinks met too.

I even think about my own sexual interests with consensual rough sex. While it is nowhere near the realm of the fucked up stuff that's out on the scene right now, maybe someone who enjoys standard vanilla sex would think my preferences were too extreme. It's like a slippery slope and you're not entirely sure how far down the slide you've gone, depending on perspective. You don't want to deny someone their own pursuit of pleasure, if that's indeed how they get off - but you also worry about the girl that needs a pay-cheque and has to sacrifice the health of her body in order to work in the adult industry. The surgeries that are required to repair things that have been wrecked (which is apparently standard in the industry and what leads many of the more popular stars to leave). I also worry about the young girlfriend that maybe gets pressured by the guy that's grown up exclusively watching this kind of stuff.

Now, I am all for female empowerment when it comes to sex and even when it comes to porn. I know there are extreme fetishists out there and so - why should I judge, right? If a woman enjoys prolapsing her anus, shouldn't that be her prerogative? My only concern is - where does it end? Does the industry just continue on the "show me what I haven't seen before" trend until performers are pressured to their breaking point? Some of what's out there is, without a doubt, causing physical and sometimes irrepairable harm to the human body. As some people normalize to this kind of thing, like a drug, the natural next step is to search out the bigger and better high. The demand gets placed on the industry and fulfilled by whoever is willing to step up to the plate and cash in. In porn, the low-end risk to the performer is not wearing condoms and the high end risk is potentially unfathomable.

I'm not anti-porn, obviously. I enjoy it. Some of it. I think it's a totally healthy thing as long as you maintain a bit of perspective. But it's definitely given me pause for thought on occasion as well. While I am against sexual censorship, my only concern is that money supercedes pleasure and this is just the more extreme version of the 'blank stares and fake moans' of vintage pornography - except with potentially more far-reaching consequences.
Porn in general can be a bad habit if it becomes an addiction.

Porn can be fun to learn from and get some great, kinky ideas or even to learn how to properly use certain toys.

However, lots of porn is mostly acting. And if you rely on porn as your only blueprint for sex rather than learning your partner, then that's when the problem comes in. Also, porn creates unrealistic expectations. Some porn theatrics are downright ridiculous and may be fun to watch but aren't that fun to actually implement. Not every position is for everyone...neither is every kink. And the people rarely enjoy it as much as they appear to enjoy it.

Porn may be a great tool in terms of ideas and sometimes instructions, but can be your biggest downfall if it's your only reference for sex.

Some great feedback here, particulary Dancing Doll, your post enthralled me...and you've got it all exactly right smile

The snowball effect of porn is so relevant. People on Cannibis who stay there usually aren't a problem, but by the time some of the progress to herion, it's usually too late. And somethings that porn stars are doing these days, are frankly messed up. It's hard to believe they go through it for just a pay cheque, it's also hard to believe that their mental health doesn't suffer because of it. Unfortanately it will also have detrimental effect on phyche of those people watching it. All we see is voilence, humiliation and exploitation, where is the sensuality and love? It's non-exsistant in the porn industry, because there isn't any of those qualities. Also, because people are watching it, it creates demand for it, which gives rise to the darker side of the matter. The sex trafficing, the drugs and the STI's.

I'm all for sexual freedom, I want sexual freedom to be part of my life, but not at the cost of my mental health, how I view women, or how I believe sex should be. If not an act of love, then sex should at least be an act of mutual liking, with some fun thrown in too. It should not be an act of voilence, exploitation, or humiliation. There is a line between erotic rough sex, which is fantastic, and abuse, which is detrimental. I worry that my mind has already been tarnished by the porn I've been watching over the years, which is why I wanna avoid it for a prolonged period of time.
I agree a lot with what Dancing_Doll said, mainly that determining the implications and consequences of porn is rarely an easy task.

I'll surely comment more later, but I'm not really in the mood right now.
I went to a lecture recently "how to talk to your son's"

It was brought home to me, that young girls feel that boys should know all about sex. and because of this pressure, most young teenage boys turn to porn to find out the do's. Unfortunately Porn sex isn't a great resource.

I watched my first porn movie when i was in my early thirties. with my husband and i must admit i got the giggles. maybe it wasn't a great movie. and the on and on filming of him pumping into her got very boring.

Can stimulate but I think perspective needs to rule the day.
