Sorry to hear that. I had a logic board replaced in my MacBook Pro a while back and it cost me £400+

Downside of owning any Apple product.
Yikes. I have come to love my Apple products but the expenditure for repairs and so forth does hit the pocket hard.

It cost me just under $500 AUD to get it back up and running, in the end. I had to replace HDD and battery, bought a portable HDD and spent a few hours instore to save my data. I'd have said it was worth it if LaCie drive hadn't given out on the 2nd or 3rd use within two weeks of ownership. I'd been busy and not backed up the brand new drive to cloud so here i am still in a pickle with my data and have to sort it out with Apple / LaCie Warranty. Lessons learned the hard way twice. Clap clap for me!
You don't realise how important backing up your data is until something like that happens. I learned the hard way, too.

I have several cloud storage accounts now for the essential files I couldn't afford to lose, plus I run an automated backup to external storage periodically using Synkron (free app):

http://synkron.sourceforge.net/

You just select the folders/file locations on your Mac you want to back up, then a destination (external hard drive), and a single click will do the rest for you. Has a huge array of options for tailoring the app to your specific requirements, for example, you can exclude specific file types, or choose what the app does if it comes across files you have previously deleted.

Worth checking out as a time-saver. smile

Thank you so much, Liz!
I will have to check it out as that sounds like great solution for me.

I got mine just within warranty, or I would have been fucked. Although, because they fucked something else up while replacing that, I essentially got a brand new MacBook.

They are expensive product to maintain, but I wouldn't want to use anything else. And they're so pretty.
They are so pretty. I have a MacBook and an iPhone, but my fave is my iPad. I consider it my sex toy. So easy to use!!!
So true re. Your iPad... Grin!!
I have a 27inch retina screen iMac, a MacBook Pro, two iPads and an iPhone 5, so I suppose I am a complete convert, although I also have a Samsung Galaxy Tab SM-T550 tablet and Galaxy S7 phone. I gave up Microsoft Windows years ago, and converted to Linux before I bought my Macs. When I have to use a Windows machine for some reason I get very frustrated by their slowness compared to a Mac. Software is cheaper for a Mac too.
i make a mean Mac n cheese!

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

So I think I should have just bought a new laptop in July, Miss MacBook has lost the plot again ?

Mmm Mac n Cheese, thanks Sprite, now I'm hungry too ?

Hi Liz, Yep they are expensive, but the one i have is 6 years old (a hand me down)….and it is still quicker than Windows laptops in the same household. In those 6 years it has out lasted 4 windows laptops.

I am using apple’s Time Machine and back up to a NAS. I will definitely look at Synkron. Thank you. Although, with Mac Sierra now backing up your documents folder to iCloud automatically is there a need for a 3rd party app?

I have to agree there. I love my mac. I also have iPhone, iPad and Watch2. I have to use windows for work, but even they use iPhones.
