iOS 8 iPad and iPhone 4S issue

Is anyone else encountering issues between iOS 8 and compatibility with iOS 7?

I updated my iPad this morning, not thinking too much about it. Now it tells me my iPhone 4S (running iOS 7), is an "unsupported device", and I can no longer tether the 2. It was rather irritating finding that out while in the park, trying to check a few things online.

So now my iPad is basically useless unless I'm at home.

It worked perfectly before.

I tried updating my iPhone, but it told me the software was up to date (even though it's running a version of iOS 7).

Great job Apple!

Nicola,
I also made the mistake of upgrading my iPad to 8.0. Now I can't upload photos or URLs. I reported it and was sent a link saying that apple is working on it.

The iOS 8 upgrade trended on twitter for days. People reported all kinds of issues. I have an iPhone 4, and I knew I'd have to break down and shell out for an equipment upgrade on the day of the iOS 8 release. When I checked for the software update, I received the following message "iOS 7.1.2 your software is up to date." In other words, give us some money now.

Actually Apple is brilliant. Although I'm having no problems with my phone, I was forced to upgrade, because as you stated, my device will no longer be supported.

Chalk that up to another reason why I will never use their products. Absolutely ridiculous. Nic, you could not use your phone as a hotspot? Is that what you were trying to do?

I haven't taken mine out of the box yet. I probably will not until I get some "I can't find anything else to do with myself" time.
I'm rather attached to my toys and it feels as if I just adjusted to the iPhone I have now.
I heard that the transition can be irritating. And now, I hear that there may be problems interacting with my iPad!

Ordered my 6 Plus with an expected delivery around the second week in October.

Yes. I used to have to do it via Bluetooth for some reason, but even that no longer works.

I have to get a new phone anyway next month, my iPhone isn't going to work in the UK.

I'm rather attached to my toys ......

Heard that about you.

A few weeks back, my employer indicated that iOS8 was not compatible with the 4s, which meant we were all going to have to upgrade our phones. Employer isn't pleased - as I'm sure many employers who provide cellular phones aren't. While a great marketing ploy by Apple, it is already backfiring due to the problems being reported. I held off updating my iPad simply because I was holding off updating my phone. Now - Samsung seems the way to go. Not sure - will have to see how it goes over the next few weeks.

I run IT at my employer and we aren't even looking at Apple. No one on our IT team has any love for the company or their approach.

We'll probably go Android (Samsung) though haven't ruled out Windows Phone 8 (with straight Windows 8 on tablets) either. We are currently a Blackberry shop but there are apps for one our key business systems that are only available for 'Droid and WinPho8/Windows 8 so, locally based or not (our head office is about an hour and a quarter from Waterloo where they started), Blackberry is likely out the door. Also, their newly launched Passport's form factor doesn't really fit with what we are trying to do as well as the Galaxy Note.
I really like the functionality of the apple products. The need for more storage coupled with Verizon's stand on my policy. I have to buy any new device outright. Any "upgrade" on my policy results in my losing my current data package sad

Someone has been kissing and telling.

I found Apple's new announcement to be quite amusing. It's turning out to be quite a mess.
? A True Story ?
Wow, glad I didn't update it yet!Lol

As with any 'new; technology, the owners of the technology get to pick and choose how they roll it out. The key, in their mind, is how to maximize profitability and please shareholders (thank T Boone Pickens for that) . So, new phone and OS means existing users have to shell out to stay current. Sadly, users do just that. In my position, my iPhone is mine, not provided by my employer. I don't like the strings they attach to my use of their phone, so I choose not to have it. My choice. But, now I have to either shell out $300 or more for a new phone to stay with my current plan, change plans and accept limited data, stick with what I have, or change phones completely.

Changing phones is easy, but my ability to do my job suddenly changes. I'm stuck between three rocks and a deep, dark crevasse. FML.

Uh, hate to break it to you, but...the shell out for that new 6 diddle is pricey. I like nice things, but DAMN! The marketing staff at Apple...brilliant bastards.
I want to thoroughly get away from Apple, but I have other 'toys' that play nicely with my phone. Plus my phone plan is great with the unlimited data. Alas, my ass is stuck in a vortex!

So a flexible phone and a useless OS is ok from a capitalist blue chip company who once had pride in what they made? I know you dont agree with that, man. They're really that bad..

I updated my iPhone5 last night (I always leave a few days for the worst of the bugs to get fixed) but I've decided not to update it for the moment on my iPad 3rd gen until I know for certain it's not going to bind it up - the memory of having retrograde my iPhone 3G is still fresh.

I've done the opposite to what you have and it seems to have no issue using the personal hotspot. This could mean they've fixed the issue or it could mean that it doesn't work in the direction of older broadcaster to newer receiver. Fiddly, annoying solution: I guess you could get around it by swapping the sim card from your phone to your pad.

So what do you use instead, smoke signals? A couple of tin cans on a piece of string? Your choices other than apple are google or microsoft - what brand of evil would you like today?

No one I know has ever regretted going from android to iOS - the same is not true the other way around

I have learned learnt from experience that when a new product or new version comes on the market give it a year before buying. It usually takes that long to iron out all the problems anyway.

I can remember when there would be releases of beta versions first before the main version came out to sort out things like this.

I have an iPhone and a Blackberry Z10, both work okay but I spend more time charging them than using them. I also have an old Samsung flip phone. It's just a basic phone but it's a lot less trouble than the others and cheaper to use as well.

See, this is the arrogance of some Apple users. Like nothing else even exists, but I'm cool with that. I buck most trends anyway. At the end of the day, I'm not the one having problems or stood in line for 4 days to get the latest phone from the istore that's not worth the box it came in and I really feel for those people. At least I get a choice of phone manufacture. I have had 2 HTC phones in the last 3 years. Both have taken a pounding. My old one looks like I dropped it out of the window of the car on the motorway, yet the screen is fully in tact. My new one, has also been dropped on concrete numerous times, I have stepped on it, yet it still functions like new and neither have ever had those bulky, shock proof casings on them. If you drop or are clumsy with your phone, you might want to check out this video.

At the end of the day, Apple have monumentally screwed up. You cant defend the defects of the new phone. What on earth were they thinking. Actually, you might know people who have jumped platforms and regretted it, but I know plenty who were glad to bury their iphone in the bottom of their office filing cabinet, never to see the light of day again..Oh, and Google never asked me for my credit card details, just to create and ID...

If all I wanted was a robust phone I'd still be using a 3110.

If I drop a wine glass it'll break, that doesn't mean I have to spend my life drinking wine from a plastic cup. I'm a grown up and I learn to respect things for what they are.

"Wah, my iphone 6 bends!" - no shit! it's a quarter of inch thick and made out of the same stuff as beer cans - don't sit on it!

I gave in at last and updated my iPad to iOS 8 very recently. Now I am left frustrated. It seems I can no longer post Gifs. Does anyone else have this problem?
