This is a thread I thought I would set up with the beginner in mind who wants to lose just a few pounds for a holiday/ special event or someone who wants to start a weight loss journey and just needs a little support and encouragement from others.

A little bit about my background. I started my weight loss journey around 6 years ago and reached my goal around 18months ago. My starting weight was 18st 7 pounds, which for a 5ft 10 and a bit guy ,was pretty big and now maintain my weight at around 12st 2 pounds .The reason why I started or needed to loose weight was for health reasons . I began getting pains in my chest and was out of breath just walking to the street corner from were I lived. The pains disappeared after shedding my first stone .

First of all perhaps a bit of controversy. From my experience and those of others on another forum , diets do not work . Unless of course you just want to shave a few pounds off for that holiday . For the rest its got to be a lifestyle change as regards diet . The reason for this is that after loosing some weight we tend to go back to our old eating habits and put the weight back on. That's why there are those who make a lot of money out of querky diets. The exceptions from the experience of other is Slimming World, Weight Watchers and the 5:2 diet. The first 2 because they hold support groups and the latter because the 2 days "fasting" can be made into normal days when the goal has been reached. For my journey I modified my diet . Out went pies, cakes, pizza, butter, sugar ,full fat dairy, chocolate ,pastries and bread. I replaced them with lower sugar or fat varieties and kept my total calorie intake to around 1300 calories , allowing a hundred extra calories for snacking on fruit etc.

When I was down to around 14 stone , I decided to workout from home and bought a WonderCore Smart machine. It worked wonders for my tummy area and it helped me to lose more weight and trim the over hanging tummy area .I still today use this machine and work out 5 days a week, using it. Instead of the over hanging belly I have now got "kissable Abs" ( that's how my Mrs describes them) . I have also introduced weights using a couple of dumbells . But no gym for me as its some distance away and I can get exercised, showered and dressed in around an hour .

So I am no expert so any answers or advice I will give will be based on my experience and welcome input from others as well .
