I guess for me, being as straight as a yardstick, I never considered it before. In that vein, my heterosexuality is also a chronic condition. I am definitely hooked on chicks. In fact obsessed with them. When I was a kid they had homosexuals listed as criminals. They were persecuted both legally and socially. I don't know about suing a doctor though. Not big on law suits for matters like this. She was wrong and they changed his files. They also sent him a letter of apology. That should be enough. Anything further is taking a wrong and trying to make a financial gain. Frivolous law suits are one of the reasons health care costs so much. Plus this kind of thing rallies the haters

Sounds to me like 'they' were jacking with him.

I think most gays have faced or will face this in their lives. Some people think that it's some sort of illness that we can be "cured" of.
I'm a bit surprised that a doctor is still thinking this way. I wonder what she prescribed for his condition?

I suppose it depends on how far it goes. What if he needed a medical for a job and chronic homosexuality was put on the report? The idea that doctors are describing it as an illness is disturbing. It only gives credence to the idiots who think they can cure it.
I agree wholeheartedly with you about the "sue happy" society. Even the UK now has ambulence chasing law firms. What worries me in this case is, would that medical practice have changed if it wasn't being sued? The damages that are awarded in the US are ridiculous. The whole idea of damages is reparation, not a windfall. The punitive damages awarded over there are staggering. The only ones that benefit are the lawzers.

While I agree that a lot of lawsuits are over the top and just pursued to make money, even having and being able to enter a "code" for homosexuality as a "chronic condition" or "chronic problem" makes my small hairs stand, and the healthcare company's excuse that their "highly complex software" is obviously too complex to handle doesn't make it any better. That it wasn't an accident but a deliberate diagnosis by a studied doctor gives me the shivers, and if a lawsuit can draw attention to her twisted perception, it's a good thing. If it came to a fine and that could be routed to one of the rainbow NGOs, it would make a point.

i'm not particularly made to feel welcome at my in-law's home - they blame me for turning their daughter gay. total high five, right. yep, most of us do face stuff like this. you either learn to laugh it off or let it drive you crazy. handling it with grace and poise sometimes is the best statement you can make.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Strait, Gay or Bi we all encounter crap in our lives. We deal with it in our own way. People can be assholes some times. Depending on the circumstance. Sometimes you can tell them their an asshole, Sometimes it's better to just let it go. This is why some of us keep our personal lives in the closet. There are no simple answers. Just simple minded people.
