999 word story not being accepted to Flash Erotica?

Anyone know which submission fields contribute to the word count in the Flash Erotica category?

My word count in the story field shows as 999, but it keeps telling me I'm limited to 1000. I tried submitting with and without the one-liner with the same result. Surely not the note to Moderators?

Any ideas?

Hiya, I've actually had this issue with my last two flash stories. Can you cut a couple of words out and see if that works? I think I went to 996 and it was fine.

I'll send Gav a PM as it sounds like a glitch.

I know the feeling. I had exactly 1000 and was gutted, lol. I've sent him a message so hopefully it can get sorted. Every word is precious!

I've had this problem too, and never knew if it was the title (I tried cutting the tag line too) or just differing ways of counting words. I think 996 was my magic number.

It's been like that for years. The closest I've ever gotten is 998.

Look for contractions - I have to I've, I will to I'll, he had, to he'd - stuff like that. Chances are you'll save a few words that way and make the cut.

Yes but once you've taken out the contractions - you end up adding more proper words to the story.

I do believe it's a bug and I'm sure that I've reported it to Buz as well. I think my magic number is 996.

Well, I've experienced this problem before with a competition. There was a 3500-word limit, but a mod kept telling me it was a little over. So, I think it is just a bug in the 'Submit Your Story' page. You may have to trim it slightly or put it in another category.

had it happen to me to in Flash. i think i had 998 words and it rejected it, so i trimmed out 2 words and voila. a quick fix might be to change the limit to 1006, just to bypass the glitch? either way, i'd like to see it fixed.

You mean you didn't take your magic hammer to it and fix it? WTH? I thought you could fix anything? I am losing faith here. you need to restore it somehow. I can't lose hope in your magical powers. It would crush me.

Cut it down to 998 and it went through no problem. My theory? It counts the title. Mine has a one word title, which would have pushed 999 over the limit. No idea, though.

Proper Words??? What the hell are those? Is that a separate category in the Queen's English dictionary?

I've heard proper colloquially misused and overused by a certain culture across the Atlantic.
