Not being a wise ass, but make sure .gif is there. Try uploading it again??

I've tried it several times over the last few months, with several different gifs. Just a still from the gif is all it shows.

I had some trouble with that before too.
What you need to do is resize your avatar to 150px x 150px before uploading it... it did the trick for me.
