Does Lush notify members when they earn new badges or updates to older badges? I just noticed that one of my stories, "Dad Disciplines Meagan," just earned me my second "Famous Story" award. Before the Lush was updated a few years ago, that badge was one of the badges that showed how many awards that badge had earned., Formerly, also, you used to receive an message that you had been awarded a badge.

I don't have any famous stories on my current profile, but badges like "Author" and "Contestant" show the number of times received (e.g. I have a "2" on "Contestant" because I've been in two comps under this profile). So I would have thought Famous Stories would work the same.

As for the notification, not sure. I don't really pay much attention to badges myself but I think you're right that no notifications of badge awards are being generated.

A strange little something for Halloween.

Thanks, Seeker. I appreciate your feedback. I've been a member for over six years now, before Lush "Version 2." In the "old" Lush site, story-related badges (author, competition (together with competition winner and competition second place, third place, and runner up (top ten) famous story (over 30,000 views), and legendary story (over 100,000 views), editor's pick, and recommended read) all displayed the number of times the awardee had received that particular badge. You would also get a brief congratulatory message from the admin team that announced you had been awarded such and such a badge. Now, it seems that the number for the famous story badge has been replaced by a star and the number for the recommended read badge has been replaced by a thumbs-up. I get the symbolism, but think there should be a way to find out you were awarded a badge for a particular story without having to go to every story of yours. It was purely accidental that I discovered my "Dad Disciplines Meagan" story surpassed 30,000 views and thus earned me my second "Famous Story" badge.

My platinum badge is gone. I just noticed this today. Not sure why it would disappear. πŸ™

Badges. Yes. I don't want to be that guy, but I decided to be anyway. I didn't want to start yet another topic on badges, so I just thought I'd pop in here. I believe my entry for the Island Getaway competition should have earned me a Runners-Up badge, but I have yet to receive one.

I believe it's actually the Competition Top Ten badge you should have received since you placed 7th. Runners-Up badges are awarded to 2nd and 3rd place. You can raise a ticket here.

Here are a couple of questions on badges which I am asking for a friend πŸ™„...

Famous Story: Published a story with over 30,000 views...

Since LushV2, the story view count seems a lot lower than under LushV1. I believe most authors here would agree with me on that. In fact, I know of only one author who has posted a new story under V2 and achieved 30,000 views. Maybe there are others – I would love to know...

My questions are... Is the story view count different between LushV2 and LushV1? And, if so, should the 30,000 number be revised down?

Series Award: An author of an outstanding chapter story.

In the 3 years (nearly) I have been writing here, I don't remember anyone receiving one. At least, not that I have noticed.

My questions are... Is this still supported? If not, why? And could we have readers nominate a series award?

Don't think so, but we publish many more stories these days, so the reading pool is much larger.

No. It was missed when we moved and has not been reinstated. Jury is still out on whether it will be reinstated at some point. It could be extremely time consuming for the panel to get through and not everyone could dedicate the time, unfortunately.

Famous Story:

I have a story that just recently crossed over the 30K mark that was written after the switch.

Series Award: An author of an outstanding chapter story.

The problem with the OS Award was that a series with more than two parts wouldn't be considered because it required too much of a time commitment to read all of the chapters. I'm not sure that I would consider two-part stories as being a series. So, I can see why it might not be something that comes back.

My take on your questions above. 😘

Private Show - A man and his wife ditch a public performance in favor of a private one in this microfiction piece.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, Jen. I appreciate it. 😊

A suggestion on the Series Award, as I wouldn't want the already high workload on our fabulous moderators to increase further... Suggestion. For the series award, make it automated...

Perhaps for any story that has at least three parts to it and receives 100 likes for each part, leave it to the software to count and award it. 😎

That's popularity not quality.

Under those terms, my series Pink would (almost, so very almost by 6 votes) be awarded an OS. But I very much doubt a panel would award it any accolade for depth of writing.

Congratulations, Kat. 😘 I knew you had a story that recently clicked past the 30k mark, but I didn't realise that it had been published under LushV2... So that makes it quite literally doubly impressive. 😊 However, it still only brings the total that I am aware of to two under LushV2 counting.

Though this is not really relevant to me, as my highest viewed story hasn't made 9,000 views yet! However, I do think badges and goals are important and do attract members/readers/authors. So maybe it's time to reevaluate, as I'm not convinced what was right for V1 is necessarily right and works for V2.

These are just my thoughts, but I do have one question... Do the admins know how many stories published under V2 have made 30,000 views in the (nearly) 3 years since the change from V1 to V2?

I agree with you, WW, but in a way, that is my point.

Maybe, there should be a badge for writing a popular series, and we leave the quality to one side, as it is too time-consuming to judge. It's just a different way of looking at it, and I suggest it, as I think it will attract members.

The problem with awarding a badge for popularity is that there are some authors who consistently score 300-500 flames πŸ”₯ per story. And others who don't have that kind of following who are really strong writers but barely break 50-75 flames.

While I won't lie and say I don't enjoy recognition for my efforts, I am always more excited when I get comments from people who really like what I've written and not just clicked the like button.

I am not sure we want to value popularity over really good writing. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

The monthly top author and top story list already address the popularity of an author and/or a story in my opinion. People who land in the top three spots get a badge for that. 😎

These are just my opinions of course. What do I know? 🀣🀣🀣

Kat, for me, your opinion is worth a lot here. 😊

Here are just some thoughts...

At the moment, the Story Series Badge does not exist and, in my opinion, is unlikely to exist again because LushStories has become very popular and will almost certainly continue to gain popularity. 😎

So, I'm just thinking laterally, trying to save the badge, and wondering if one badge based on popular support is not such a bad idea if it can be awarded within the software and does not drain moderator resources. It doesn't have to be based on X number of likes. Maybe it could be X number of views, or perhaps the number of comments, or a combination of all three over X number of chapters.

It is just a suggestion, one which I believe is different from the monthly popular author/story chart, which is reset every month.

but barely break 50-75 flames

In my dreams.

I have a handful of stories with more than 30k views, but they're all from 2015-2017 era.

I have one story with 75k that I keep an eye on with the dream of getting that million view badge, but the number doesn't seem to go up (probably just because it's an older story that most people wouldn't stumble across unless they were viewing my profile).

Last year, I started taking my writing more seriously, and I found that I was averaging 50-100 flames on a new piece, but the drop-off after the initial few days of activity is really steep. Even when I got a recommended read, or posted my most popular stories, I never managed to to crack the top stories or top authors list, though.

Some of my best stories barely hit 50 flames. Which is why that isn't a metric that can accurately measure the quality of a story. I can pen a 100-word microfiction piece and snag over 100 πŸ”₯in a day. And I can also spend hours researching for a seduction story, spend a couple of days vigorously editing it till I am happy with it, get an RR and a bunch of really lovely comments, and get 23 πŸ”₯ in that same amount of time.

This being an erotic story site, I realize that stories with depth are not going to be fan favorites. But I don't care. I love when I write a piece that I have poured my soul into and a couple of handfuls of readers tell me how much they enjoy it. πŸ˜‡

^ Leaving aside the possibility of 100 πŸ”₯ in a day ever, this was my Lush dance in a nutshell. I simply don't have the Goddess talent or scope to sustain it anymore.

I did an experiment when I wrote what turned out to be the first chapter of my series, Hannah. I wanted to see if putting all effort away and writing I/F filth would result in a higher score. It remains my highest-ranked story in terms of likes and views.

Lush Stories, in many ways, strike me as a popularity contest, and I notice that it's crept under my skin. I'm not saying my stories are fabulous or great works of writing, but lately I've found that I've lost interest in my own writing.

I do, however, agree with you that it's the handful of comments that are the real payoff.
