It doesn't happen often - but sometimes when I click from 'online' to 'away' it gives me a menu from which to choose 'visible to all / friends / no on - online / away' and sometimes it doesn't give me this menu and just toggles between online and away.
At first I thought this was only when I was in invisible mode - but now I realize it just happens whenever, regardless of what mode I'm in.

I think it depends which part of the site you're on. The forum is kind of a separate entity, and I think it's when you're here that it will simply toggle online/away.

I, also thought that I could not change my "Invisible" to "Visible" status unless I was on my profile, as well, seems to toggle like you said. I have better luck on my profile page or on the home page when that stuff happens. (?) So I am not sure if it is supposed to be this way or what it is, but I have noticed.
