Four, overnight to be exact. All comments are intact.

System glitch, or a master class in 'all is fair in Lush and war'?
How do you know four votes have disappeared?

A vote only disappears when the person who gave the score deletes their account. In the past, some people have created multiple accounts to vote on a competition entry in order to try to sway the results. There are three problems with this.

1 - If those accounts are deleted the votes disappear as well.
2 - If the profiles are left active, the owner of the site has systems in place to highlight these attempts to abuse the system.
3 - Story votes/scores don't determine competition results.

Edit: My mistake. See Nicola's clarification.

The latter.

I remove all votes on competition entries, from competitors. It's the fairest way to do it.

Some people think that by voting down other people's entries, they might get an advantage. All it does is put a black mark against their name. Some go as far as asking their friends to do the same, which is easily spotted too.

All the voting does is give me a guide as to the Top 20-30 entries, to make creating a shortlist easier. But where competitions like this are concerned, with shorter submissions, I usually read the lot.

Thank you for your prompt response, Liz.

My terminology was in error. I should have written 'scores.'

Yes, I've run into disappearing scores before when accounts are deleted, but as all comments are intact in this case, I had to wonder if something is amiss.

Thank you, Nicola. This information will also be helpful to future first-time entrants.
Hi FirstBlush.

How do you know 4 votes have disappeared, when the total votes are hidden for competition entries?

Please PM me if you'd rather.

The number of votes for your competition entries seem to show in the timeline
