When I look at my profile page, there's a list of pictures on the top right (just below Recent Activity), shown with my Friends' comments. How can I hide those pictures?

The options for hiding your image gallery are in:
Account / Settings / Settings & Privacy
Likewise, if you go to Settings / Photo Albums, you can restrict access to those to individual members.

You may be referring to friends who post pictures as our 'blog comments', which is really just a status update to most. There's an option in your privacy settings that says 'Hide Friend's Blog Images' and you can check the box and it will prevent you from seeing these images. Hope this helps!
