Is anyone else having issues with instant messaging? It just spins and spins and won't let me set it to what I want. I have logged off and cleared out everything, but it still isn't working; not that I use it much, but not being able to set my status is annoying.

Thank you. I was afraid I had touched the wrong thing. That happens to me a lot, so good to know I didn't break it.

If the other person is not online, or has their messenger function disabled, you will not be able to respond to their message. It's a live chat, essentially. If someone messages you whilst you were online, but you don't see it, the message will still appear there at least until you've seen it. It will grey out the text box to let you know that you cannot reply.

It doesn't. This is a copy of a facebook function, but does not work the same. On FB, you can send a message to someone even if they are not online, and they can respond when they see the message, much like our BBs used to work. Now, the only way we have to send someone a message is by email. It's called Messenger, not Instant Messenger. And I doubt that many people know the Messenger box has to be active to get a message either. Part of the problem there is that if you leave the boxes active, they keep popping open if you refresh or change screens. This sometimes happens even if you have disabled it. But my guess is many people leave it disabled because it's quite annoying to have the boxes continually popping up, even if the other person is no longer online.
