When I shrink a gif to post it in a "friends' comments" section in someone's profile, it uploads with white and black splotches, and is no longer animated. Any way around this?

As far as I know, there's no need to shrink .gifs or any image in wall posts because images posted on walls are coded to auto-fit to an acceptable size.

I believe there is a 1mb size limit on uploaded images, however, there is no limit if you are linking it from another source.
i.e. not uploading a copy of the image yourself, but using the URL of the image which is hosted elsewhere.
If a gif is too large, it will be shrunk to fit.
The process, turns it into a static image instead, unfortunately.
Your best bet is to keep gifs fairly small, and to test they work after you've shrunk them, before uploading them to our servers.
