[I'm not sure if this is a question or a suggestion. I've occasionally suggested features for the site that actually existed, but I just didn't know how to use them. Embarrassing...]
Here's what I know, or think I know, and then I'll follow with my question.
When you go to a story category, for example, anal, you are presented with a few options for searching for stories.
-Recent (needs no explanation)
-Popular (which can further be broken down by last month, this month, all time)
-Viewed (can also be broken down the same way as "Popular")
-Suggested (seems to return only stories with RR or EP).
"Viewed" seems to be sorted by view count only. That is, the average score doesn't seem to play into it.
"Popular" seems to be sorted the same way the Story Picks category on the front page. That is, by votes in combination with score. A story with many votes but a 4.99 score will NOT show up under Popular.
So, my question is:
Is there a way of going to a category and sorting by most votes and only by most votes, without involving the scores? (as there is for the "Viewed" option)
I can imagine that there could be a large number of excellent stories that were widely voted on when new but have a few 3s or 4s (or spiteful 1s and 2s) that prevent it from showing up in the popular category because the average score is a shade lower than 5. If its view count is moderate, then it might be a very hard story for a reader to discover, especially if it doesn't have an RR and wouldn't therefore show up in "Suggested."
That is, let's say I love MILF stories, and I'm in the mood to read a good story. I go to the MILF category and poke around. Most likely I've already read the recent ones. Maybe, over the course of time, I've been working my way through the Suggested and Popular category. I don't think there would be a way for me to find an excellent story as described in my previous paragraph unless I already happened to know about it.
Not sure I'm advocating for adding a sorting option and further cluttering things up, but I'm curious to know if I'm missing a way that already exists for finding stories as described above.
