Is there really no way to prevent all the group spam messages? And the individual messages every time somebody leaves the group they never wanted to be part of either?
You can set your Messages Privacy Settings to Only allow messages from friends. That has worked for me for a long time. I was only added to a group message once before I before I enabled it.
Note: The only acceptable exception is receiving messages from moderators and admins.

That’s a good suggestion, but too much “brute” force. It also means that some legitimate member who wants to send you a message and isn’t a friend can’t do it. There are much better ways to solve this problem (many listed in this thread) but it is a low priority for the development team.

It can be 'brute' but if that works for him, perhaps a solution. Some members politely ask permission first instead of simply sliding into one's DMs. Although, that can be tricky for those who are only into stories and never venture into the chatroom. I was thinking, if he can send the nonfriend member a message first without being friends, he can 'override' that setting. Somehow similar to the chatroom private messaging if the messaging is disabled.
