"undefined" comments on voted stories

Hello,

Every so often, but regularly enough to be a concern, I receive a vote on my stories with the comment "undefined". At first I thought that people were circumventing the need to comment when voting by entering that word. However, seeing as it is consistently the same word and always in lower case, I have come to believe that there is something wrong with the option to force readers to comment when voting. Either their comments are being dropped, or there is a way to avoid commenting altogether. Please could you let me know why this is happening?

Thanks,

Lars.
I've asked Gav to comment on this.

We had a database outage a few weeks ago, that might have been the cause of the hiccups.

Are you seeing any happen in the last week or so?

I don't think it's when someone deletes their account, as that should purge all their comments and scores automatically.
Thanks Nicola. Indeed, when people delete their account the scores and comments disappear correctly. I've been seeing the "undefined" comment issue ever since I turned on that option at least a few months ago as well as over the past couple of weeks. It has happened several times. The latest one is from someone who posted comments on other people's stories and yet the comment on mine just says undefined. I think there must be some sort of bug (he he, I'm rooting for the Bug Slayer badge ).

If Gav needs more information, I can give him some examples.

hi lars
i have seen this issue before. there is some browser/device that struggles with the javascript required to show the popup, capture the coment and post this back to the server. undefined is what javascript uses if a variable hasn't been declared, so this becomes their comment.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the explanation Gav.
