I attached the MP3 6.27 mb, crashes trying to upload and returns the screen "down for maintenance"

The DFM page can be indicative of a heavy system load at that time, a time out and a few other circumstances. How many times have you tried the upload please?
Three but they were within 10 minutes, I'll try right now

FYI, It does the same thing when attaching a GIF to someone's lush

Please clarify/elaborate... you are trying to do what?
I encountered the exact same problem when trying to download an audio version of a story.
Either I got a red error message, or the site displayed the "Down for maintenance" page.
A moderator helped me upload the audio by going through the technical team.
If anyone has any idea how to resolve this issue so I can upload audio versions without bothering the mods or the technical team, I'd be grateful

Oh, and I just published my first audio story
So the development team have taken a look and yes it's 'flakey'. The advice is, until it can be properly investigated and fixed, that members go back to submitting their audio files via email:
Make sure you include the title of the story to which it is to be attached and your account name. If there is no written story, i.e. audio only, please say so.

Just to add; since we have reverted to the original method for creating audio story/poems, i.e. you have to send it to the development team, the audio file can only be attached once the story/poem has been published.

Thank you for this post Spartan111, and for your guidance simplyjohn. I was having the same issues just now as I tried to upload an audio file to a poem I drafted. I have followed your recommendations and have emailed the audio file to the email address you provided, and now it will just be a waiting game for the poem's approval, and then for the audio file attachment to the poem.
