Using Mouseovers on uploaded images

Ok, this might be a very daft question but I can't find it listed anywhere so here goes.

If I add an image (to the signature, on the profile, etc.) am I allowed to use ALT, TITLE or other mouse over code to have messages appear if a pointer moves over it?

I ask because I'm considering putting a little comment that only appears if you put your pointer over the image.
No, it won't be rude. No, it won't try to make the image turn into one of those fake hypnotism things and give someone a headache.

I thought before I go and do it, why not ask if it's allowed or even possible out here.

When you upload an image you can (and should) supply the description for the alt text. I've been lax and not done it and know I should to help screen readers and other assistive tech.

There's no provision for title during upload as far as I'm aware. Mainly because it's fairly useless on touch devices. e.g. what does "mouseover" even mean for a finger touch/swipe? It harks back to the bad old short-sighted 90s web and, perhaps one day, will be jettisoned. Who knows.

There's figcaption and figure tags now, but unfortunately Lush doesn't support those (as far as I can tell - but maybe I'm missing something).

Edit: just read your post properly. If you're hand-crafting image links in your forum sig then sure, you can supply your own title and alt text. You might want to look into wrapping it in figure and figcaption tags if you can. It won't be _hidden_ like you want, but may show up for everyone, including those on mobiles.

So does that mean I can use ALT to put a description or should the name I give the file be descriptive?

Oh and in the chatverse on a mobile device if you press your finger on an image that has ALT or TITLE the text appears on the screen above the options to copy it, save it, and what not.

I'm just messing with the idea of having some colour in my signature file or on my profile.

Yeah, sorry. See my edit where I read your post properly, d'oh.

Some mobile browsers do indeed pop up the title if you long press. But if it's a linked image, that behaviour may be subverted by the context menu so is not guaranteed.

OK classic BB image code works but the resize option doesn't appear to work.
BB Code page on IMG tags

If I resort to classic HTML it doesn't parse the IMG tags so ALT, TITLE don't get processed.

Drat, I was hoping raw HTML would work but I guess that is a bit of a stretch!

If it doesn't process resize codes, I guess the parts of BBCode that a site support is up to the site admins. I'd have thought that would be allowed, but maybe it's removed so people don't try and stretch images to 6000px wide or something daft like that.

It is marked as a feature prone to abuse so I can't sulk that it isn't active here.
