I think of an album as a collection of things, and certainly a CD is a collection of music (I am just going to assume you're referring to music since you mentioned cassettes and 8 tracks). Therefore, if you're talking about a CD pertaining to one artist or band, then yes I think of a CD as an album or even a record, as a collection of their music. However, if I burn a bunch of different songs to a CD, a "mix tape" if you will, it ceases to be an album in my mind, and is merely a CD. Maybe I am thinking about that too much, but that's where I find myself on the topic.
