I'm glad you saw Hostiles. I liked how for once they showed the violence on both sides in a a brutal, realistic fashion.

The Post was a generic newspaper movie....

Total Oscar bait. I was glad it didn't win even though it was a fine film.

12 strong was a disappointing movie. The lack of strong character development turned it into just a kind of modern war film. I get absolutely bored with Afghan and Iraq war films. I appreciate they tried to do something different but it all seemed by the numbers for me.

Hostiles 8/10
The Post 7/10
12 Strong 6.5/10

The ratings coincide with the order I liked the movies. The movies were all predictable but well acted with fun action. Christian Bale seems to always put in an excellent performance and he did so in Hostiles. There were a few hokie scenes like when attacked by the Commanches, why didn't the soldiers get their rifles as soon as possible instead of fight them off with pistols? Not very realistic. Wes Studi, while a main character, actually didn't say much but didn't need to.

I think everyone is familiar with Wes Studi, who is now in the Western Movie Hall of Fame, from playing the bad guy Indian in Dances With Wolves and The Last of The Mohicans. He is a Cherokee from Oklahoma and a Vietnam War veteran. After his first divorce when he was still young, a friend suggested he get into acting to meet women. So he did.

I like the Seth Meyers video. And yes, Georgia is the fourth state. smile The Paper is very well acted but like the video implies, it runs along the lines of every newspaper movie ever made.

12 Strong is a typical war action movie, well acted and enjoyable but not spectacular.
Upgrade. 7.5/10

As the critics say, it truly is B-movie action/sci-fi schlock styled in the brutal 80-90s vibe. It subverted my expectations/predictions several times. It's a ridiculous movie but it has a surprisingly solid plot and surprisingly good lead acting. Not a movie I'd have paid to see without MoviePass, but was a fun bit of entertainment.
watched Blade Runner 2049 w/ Garrett.
I watched Smokey and the Bandit. Its and incredibly fun movie. According to the special features it added the word Sumbitch to the American vernacular.
Blade Runner 2049. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really need to get to the theater to see some of these when they come out. But damn, it's hard to find time and so inconvenient, though I love the theater experience.

If I think it'll be a high-quality movie, I do my best to mimic the theater experience at home. With the big flat screen, you can make it dark, have a great sound system, make some popcorn, but still hit pause to go to the bathroom and not miss anything like at the theater. So maybe this works out just fine.
Would love to see "Little Pink House" (based on real life eminent domain abuse)
watching Frankenstein for the hundredth time.
Hotel Artemis.

4/10

All four of those points come from the fact that is has Sofia Boutella who always brings the scary kinda sex appeal. I'd let her do some things to me.
I've watched in the last week.....

Mary Shelly is the disappointing film for me thus far this year. I'm a Frankenstein fan... I first read it when I was about 8 years old. It's still one of my favorite books.

This story is just not enjoyable. It's not fun or insightful. Elle Fanning is terrible in the role with a terrible English accent. With all the great young British actresses, could they not have found someone that better fit the role?

Usually I can suggest a movie for a specific population that may enjoy it even when reviews are bad... but this one is a dud. Nobody is going to enjoy this one.
re-watched THE BOOK OF ELI.
I saw the premier of The Incredibles 2
watched

Secretary (2002) w/ guys;cute film.
An oldie, but a very, very good film.
The ballad of Cable Hogue

I am looking forward to seeing Ocean's 8
Watched Incredibles 2 over the weekend. PURE AWESOME!

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

I'm looking forward to Soldado.

Taylor Sheridan is one of the best film writers around. He wrote Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River. I'm not really a fan of most sequels but if this one is even as good as Sicario, then it will be worth it.

I can't agree more. Damn. That border crossing scene entering Juarez, with the helicopter shots of the landscape and the convoy. Then, the return drive and the altercation at the border. Wonderful! There is a guy on YouTube that did an analysis on that last scene and how the tension was created. I found it darn interesting how he broke down the timing and amount of time of what they did.

I did like Emily Blunt. In some way, I wish she was returning. But I don't think her character could, at least, not in the same capacity. She was pretty messed up at the end.
I saw Ocean's 8.

I can't remember what movies I want to see. I usually miss all of the previews.

I liked the characters a lot in Oceans 8.
Sicario: Day of the Soldado.

I might even give into watching it at Cinema w / guys on June 29.
Just saw Won't You Be My Neighbor?

If you were a fan of the show, Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, you'll most likely enjoy this film.

I really want to see the Mr Rogers movie, I loved him when I was growing up.
Also want to see Incredibles 2, and was interested in Hotel artemis, but it came and went so fast I never got the chance.
Upgrade was a good time, and not only did it have a dark ending, if you think about what was likely to happen in regards to tying up loose ends, it gets even darker.
Just seen a preview of Sicario 2. Better than I expected, given I thought the first was fairly average. Way less tension and more action in the sequel, though, which is kind of a shame. Great drone/helicopter shots of course.

A flimsy, typically sensationalist tabloid opening (hey, anyone with a prayer mat is a terrorist who loves blowing up children... riiiight) sets up the rest of the film's set pieces which segue from scene to scene with moody gazes and pointed dialogue.

Gorgeously shot throughout. Tonnes of great bloodletting scenes. Brilliantly acted all round, but overall nothing I'd watch again. A bit like the first one in that regard.

I went to see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and I'm starting to feel like the only person that thought, meh.

I checked my watch four times. That's not a good sign. I love Jurassic Park and I really enjoyed Jurassic World, but this one didn't get me.

I have a new story out! Wish You Were Here A teasing sub may I have pushed too far, but the punishment is oh so sweet.

Nightshade Part 1 & Nightshade: Part 2

Finally saw Solo. I liked it, but I also get the Star Wars fatigue.
I've been on the road a lot lately so I've been watching a lot of movies: PS: Spokane is a boring fucking city.

1. Truth or Dare
2. A Quiet Place
3. Rampage
4. Flower
5. I Feel Pretty
6. Woman Walks Ahead
7. Isle of Dogs
8. Blockers
9. Thoroughbreds
10. Ready Player One

Of all these I would recommend Thoroughbreds. Its a very original and disturbing film.

I also like Flower for its originality.
I saw the documentary of Fred Rogers, "Won't You be My Neighbor", today and it moved me to tears several times during the movie.
I watched 10mins of the new IT film. No good.

Boo.

Wow. 10 mins and you made that judgement...

I'm surprised you didn't include the word "sad" in your description.

Especially since the first ten minutes is one of the most emotionally powered beginning of any movie in recent history.

The movie is damn good, and the beginning is spectacular.
