A very refreshing take on the addict trope.

Most movies that deal with this, cover the same kind of character arc. This one is different in that it deals with the aftermath of a recovering addict trying to get the trust back of his family.

Not happy endings. No sugar coating. One of the best movies of the year. highly recommended.

Took my fiancé to see Jim Jarmusch's new zombie film The Dead Don't Die. An incredible cast (Bill Murray, Chloe Sevigny, Tilda Swinton, Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, Steve Buscemi etc.) that totally goes to waste. Filled with pointless scenes and monotonous dialogue. It's as if the movie is so drenched in irony it can't even bother to try. A big disappointment, both as horror and comedy.

Never saw it before, but was always curious. Stormy Canada Day. Found myself unexpectedly home alone for a few hours, so I watched; something I've struggled to finish for a couple of months.

Not what I expected. Not even close.

Spanish. Didn't know that. World War Two. Nada. Rebels versus Fascists, well Falangists. Had to research that one. Guillermo del Toro. No idea it was him. And then the fantasy creatures in the labyrinth and below. I really didn't know what I was getting into. At times, it was a struggle to get through this. Many comfortable boundaries crossed into uncomfortable territory. I really don't know how to explain my viewing experience. Sure, there was some dated acting, dialogue, and cinematography, but it's mostly about the story - a grown-up's twist on Alice In Wonderland? Possibly. Someone suggested that. I do know that it is a movie that is disturbing, and it makes me think about it. What just happened and why? I'm still unsure. It's very complex and more than meets with eye. I can see why so many think this is one of the best, whether it is or not, it is memorable.

Talk about guilty pleasures. I'm sorry. I should apologize. I like Adam Sandler. Some of his movies are just stupid funny, others are just stupid. But I get good guy vibes from him.

Just watched Murder Mystery and everyone, including my kids, enjoyed it. It's not Oscar-worthy, but it's under-your-breath, chuckle funny. Jennifer and Adam have good chemistry.

Also finally saw, Call Me By Your Name.

It was a struggle because the pacing was too slow for me. I loved the story, the Italian lifestyle and scenery, and the acting was really, really good. Some songs were also timely and enjoyable. But I felt this movie was more suited to a cinephile that me. I think their appreciation better represents the quality of the film that does mine.

Children of Men. I saw a movie documentary on CNN and they talked about the camera work in this movie, especially the action sequences. The story was pretty good too - a global infertility crisis.

Missing Link. Watched with the kids. Pretty good but did have some repetitive villain-won’t-die stuff that got annoying. Humorous in a dry British wittish kinda way.

The Lion King, the new one. I'd never seen the original nor the stage version. I really didn't know the story. My opinion? Ehhh. The story is simplistic, the songs annoying, but the way they make these computer generated films blows my mind.
